Musicology or Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic? Which of the aforementioned do you prefer? Do you feel, as I do, that Prince is having more fun and putting in more effort in RU2TJF? I like Musicology loads, but I listened to Rave for the first time in ages today and found myself appreciating it far more than I ever had. So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

not a slam dunk.....
Rave as some decent tunes on it...the sound is somewhat simlar and Musicology has the misfortune of having two cringe inducing and earbleed causing songs in Life of the party and Cinnamon Girl.... But overall i think Musicology comes out ahead on by a hair NPS is worse than both Emancipation was the last Prince release I would give to someone as a gift

co-sign. unless you want to bring 'rave IN2 the joy fantastic' into the picture, which i much prefer to 'rave UN2' and gets a lot of play on my stereo...probably more than 'musicology'. now a re-worked, extended, re-mixed 'musicology'....that could be fun.

I was listening to Rave into...and the following really stick out as great trax Hot wit you Undisputed GRES Tangerine Sun Moon and Stars Man O War Beautiful Strange Pretty Man Rave grows on me with each listen as well. Musicology does not Musicology is a more solid album with less "skippers" Rave trax have more personality and seem to be more Princely. I rarely listen to rave unto.

the weird thing about 'musicology' to me is that even though i think the songs on that album are just slightly on the mediocre side, at the same time i think it's one of the most listenable albums he's released in a really long time. nothing on the album really kicks my ass, but nothing sends me rushing for the 'skip' button either. it has a charm to it, but it doesn't visit any extremes whatsoever, like just about every other album of his has in one way or another.

& that's better than Cinnamon Girl? Musicology is better because it's well edited. Check this song out at:

But Rave does have Pretty Man. Man, I love that song!

Musicology hands down but having said that, I've been listening to Rave... and I've been digging some of those songs again. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Musicology, by just a bit.
Rave had a few gems on it, like I Love U But... and Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do, but it's just plagued by atrocious clunkers like Every Day is a Winding Road, Hot Wit U, Undisputed, and Baby Knows. Musicology is a well-edited, if not slightly boring, solid album with a nice flow to it. Rave is szichophrenic in comparison. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I like the Musicology album better, but I think Rave has the best song. So Far, So Pleased. CALL ME A DREAMER 2!

Man.... both are good albums. I like Rave cuz of "Hot Witchu", "Greatest Romance", "Man O War". But Musicology has some good ones too. "Call My Name", "Reflection". Thats a tough one. Paul G II

It's no masterpiece, but it's better than everything else on the album and certainly better than anything on Musicology. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic is far and away my pick of the two albums. Rave's got it's problems, definitely, but it still sports a few of my absolute favorite Prince tunes from the '90s:
The Greatest Romance Ever Sold Tangerine Silly Game Strange But True Musicology, despite being slightly more consistent... doesn't have a single song that really gets me.

"Musicology" is a lot better as an album, but "Rave" I think is a bit closer to my own tastes. Because it's more electronic, has some good programming on it (that's not to say a lot of it was disasterously bad as well) and it contains those "cute"-type of Prince songs that he used to do in the mid-80s ("Baby Knows", "The Sun, The Moon & Stars". "Musicology" is a a master-musician finding his focus back, whilst "Rave" is a genius still in the midst of a creative crisis. I personally rather listen to the latter, even if it would be all over the place and not good product as a whole. And hell, these days with programmable CD-players I don't even have to be reminded of "Undisputed" or "Everyday Is A Winding Road".

Rave is a better album. They're both fairly void of substance. Just fun, light-hearted pop albums. Difference is, Rave IS actually a fun little record to listen to, whereas Musicology is a little bit of a yawn.
Besides, nothing on Rave, not even Undisputed, is as cringeful as Life O The Party and Cinnamon Girl. And nothing on Musicology is better than The Greatest Romance and I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore. The artwork is also pretty cool for Rave. The purple jumpsuite and the ribbons in his hair... not to mention the random picture of a lonesome lamb inside... And don't even get me started on the Musicology artwork.
