It's only me or every1 agrees that the "MUSICOLOGY" artwork SUCKS? I don't know if any1 has posted a similar thread b4, cuz the search function is not working and I'm new here...
But if I didn't know it was an official release I'd take it as being a bootleg - and by that I don't meant SABOTAGE or MOONRAKER stuff (which are amazing!) but the fan, homemade stuff. PS: I've mentioned the labels, but bcuz I read that it was Ok 2 talk about them as long as we don't make reference 2 where 2 buy or trade stuff. Hope I'm not infriging any rules here.

i think the general consensus was that it was pretty uncreative/boring.

I misunderstood the comment, well you are sort of right, it seems to be put together without much concern, but the theme of the record is lets go back to the day when Music was real music, (before video killed the radio star) and I guess the art work is simple as well with out all the hype. The artwork is pretty dull throughout... And I include the artwork contained within the whole package too, ie the music...

It was funny in the late 90s when Prince came out with the worst-ever album art-work Sabotage had incredible covers for their releases. He really should have hired their designers to do the job. And "Musicology"? Well... it's not great. But I thought that N.E.W.S - while not being the most aesthetically appealing one - had some sort of unique vibe about it and "Musicology" continues in that style. It's a bit different from the 90s stuff - there's a bit more healthy edge to it. Altough that just as well be slapdashness, but yeah, some sort of an edge. It's more in the right Prince-y direction: not fancy, somewhat endearing, but rushed. Think of "Controversy", [Edited 3/15/05 6:29am]

The fact that it was in just cardboard with no plastic case was a turnoff. I went and bought two plastic cases and cut the cardboard to "Musicology" and "The Rainbow Children" to fit the front and back of the cases. Now they look professional.
Also, that damn cardboard doesn't fit in the slots of CD holders and it gets warped over a period of time. Andy is a four letter word.

"Musicology" was, some months after it's initial release, also released in a jewelbox version. At least, in the netherlands it's on sale like that. I went and bought it and it makes the whole thing feel more official than another one of those cardboard releases. I hate those. If he'd go and release "N.E.W.S", "The Rainbow Children", "One Nite Alone" and "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" in decent jewelcases, I might be tempted to go out and buy them all once more. Those cardboard things just make me angry and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

the artwork seems uninspired. however i like that picture of him in the red suit holding his hanky , it kinda looked like he was shooting dice. How can I live 4 love? I'm calling!!!

It sucks big time. Really ugly.
Again who is responsible for his artwork ? It is terrible. The TRC cover is the only one I liked in the recent years and the reason is... It is from a talented painter ! Il n'y a pas de sentiment plus exaltant que celui d'appartenir à une nation si diverse, si libre et si douée pour le bonheur.

It wasnt the artwork so much as the drab photography-- usually P really pops out in his pics-- very suggestive, very Prince.
The pics are flavorless-- Hopefully next time they wont take simple to mean lacking. Dynamic Savior Said: Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?

Boring artwork for boring music. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

It's not so much the artwork that bothers me but the packaging itself.
That cheap cardboard with the flap makes it feel so amateurish. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

And as talented as George is, his last album has a couple of higlights and the rest is really really boring. And he takes forever to record and release anything new. And now he's "retiring". God I hope Prince doesn't take note of any of that.

It's the horrid font that ruins the cover for me--especially the text on the album's cover picture. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Still, if Musicology had been half as awesome as TGE, the album that deserved all the right promotion, Musicology could've been packaged as a CD in a big garbage bag for all I care. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
