on dutch tv there's a special called 'i love 80's'. every tuesday this program covers the highlights from a year out of this decade with comments from dutch and international celebrities. yesterday it was 1985 that was in the spotlights. the program referred to 1985 as 'the year of the minneapolis genius'. wendy & lisa were one of the celebrities commenting on prince and his music. i've quoted what they said on the show:
wendy: "prince was the cook, we were the spice."
lisa (about purple rain): "prince had the idea for the song 'purple rain'. i think he had a few chords and actually showed it to wendy and wendy was the one who put those chords that are.. that's the intro to 'purple rain'.."
wendy (about prince and talking with the media): "a lot of times he didn't know what to say and answer. how would you.. talking about music is like [talking] about architecture for him. it's difficult for him."
wendy (about how badly prince treated his personnel): "it was a very strained time. there's was crap going on personally between loves and i mean it was.. there was [hatin'] all over the place."
wendy (about prince's appearance): "prince is a pop artist. and pop artists are absolutely just as concerned with how they look, as what there material is."
wendy (about prince's music): "..and i think that his best work has been in the 80's and i think he has got even better in him than what was in the 80's. i think he hasn't even begun to be what i think i know him to be, musically."
that was it. this a BBC show so maybe it was already discussed when it was broadcasted in the uk, but anyway..

this was a very recent interview. wendy & lisa surely aged. man i had to check twice to see if it was really them. don't have any pics though, sorry..

'talking about music is like dancing about architecture' was the quote (one used by many pop musicians to describe whow difficult it is to talk about music to the press).

and the 'hating' quote should be 'peyton place', s soap opera. apparently there were many romances going on in the prince camp..

very cool to see them.
of courese they aged, but I thought they looked great and it was a wonderful surprise.
