How much tighter would the Symbol album have been if it were a ten track set?

1. My Name Is Prince
2. Sexy MF
3. Love 2 The 9's
4. The Morning Papers
5. Sweet Baby
6. Damn U
7. 7
8. And God Created Woman
9. 3 Chains O' Gold
10. The Sacrifice Of Victor

I love these tracks... it's just a shame I have to wade through ones like "I Wanna Melt With U" (leave the dog howling to Kate Bush Prince) and "Arrogance". Tony M is also featured WAAAAAY too heavily.

I may burn myself this ten track set... what d'ya reckon?

I dunno... I like it, but I think it'd be better off as a b-side or something...

The Flow and Arrogance should never have been released if you ask me...

I'd dump 3 Chains of Gold. As one critic wrote at the time, "Just because you can do it all, doesn't mean it's all worth doing."

Here's my tracklist:

My Name
Sexy MF
Love 2 the 9s
The Max
Melt With U
Sweet Baby
The Continental
Damn U
7
And God Created Woman
Sacrifice of Victor

Well, this would be my ideal prince tracklisting.

1. My Name is Prince (with Tony's rap replaced with a guitar solo)
2. Love 2 The 9's
3. Blue Light
4. The Morning Papers
5. Sweet Baby
6. The Continental
7. And God Created Woman
8. Damn U
9. 3 Chains 'O' Gold
10. 7

I like it the way it is.

I just wish the rap on 2 The 9's would be ommitted, and Mayte's "Give back the chains" voice would be stripped from 3 Chains of Gold.

It's a brilliant album--one of his classics in my opinion.

I like Continental but i hate the part with carmen electra. it messes with the whole vibe of the song.

in response to the question, the tracklist is almost perfect except you forgot Blue Light and The Continental.

1. My Name Is Prince

3. The Morning Papers
4. Blue Light
5. Sweet Baby
6. The Continental
7. Damn U
8. 7
9. And God Created Woman
10.3 Chains O' Gold

I actually struggled to come up with 10 tracks from that album that I would consider excellent, even though I generally like the album. 3 Chains O' Gold was my last choice - a curio to be sure. Prince doing Queen. But great song? Not for me.

I love the album just the way it is,but if you forced me to trim it down to a 10-song set,it would look like this...

PRINCE---LOVE SYMBOL

"My Name Is Prince"
"Sexy MF"
"Love 2 The 9s"
"Sweet Baby"
"Blue Light"
"The Continental"
"Damn U"
"7"
"And God Created Woman"
"3 Chains O Gold"

that's actually a pretty consistent tracklist.

"Three Chains O Gold" is the perfect finale to the album, imo.I always felt that the album should have ended with that song."The Sacrifice Of Victor" is a weak song to close the album.

Have to agree with some of the previous comments - its just fine how it is. I think it is one of Prince's most complete LPs, its like a journey of self-discovery from the beginning to the end and leaving off a track - no matter how inconsistent - it would upset the flow of the record.

Having said that if I had to leave off any track, or tracks that I think are superflous, I'd pick the middle trio Damn U, The Flow and Arrogance.

However, I'd have to defend Mr M on Flow cos I used to really dig this track when I listened to it when I was little it used to make me chuckle and the horns are an added bonus!

Great LP.

ps: just adding to this - I just noticed a lot of people have left off The Max - you can't leave this track off, its absolutely ace - sure its a bit OTT and the production is so exaggerated but its amazing, great pop ditty.

I completely agree! The first half is great, the second just boring.

I'd like to take off "The Flow/Arrogance" and I'd like to add to the album

"Howevermuch U Want" - which woulda given the album even more Arabian vibes
"Peach" - which woulda given the album just a tiny little bit more oomph

plus put an instrumental in there somewhere round about the middle of the
whole thing to serve as a pallet cleanser.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
