Is this true, Batman?

so I came across this site and I was wondering is this true ...

The Batman soundtrack, Prince's best-selling album of all time, saw Prince assume the persona of the film's main characters. Despite its commercial success, the artistic results were dubious, with the Joker singing, "U whispered something/ It took my mind out like a/ G flat major with an E in the bass" on "Electric Chair." Prince's Batman effort, as well, suffered from creative shortcomings, such as when the caped crusader whoops, "Yellow Smiley offers me X/ Like he's drinkin' 7-Up/ I would rather drink six razor blades/ Razor blades from a paper cup" on "The Future."

How do Batman sale compare to those of Purple Rain? I thought
Batman sold about 2 million? Have I been living a lie?

I know it doesn't matter but heck! Im curious ( boxed so help me please)
If you will, so will I

Yeah - apparently it is true...They announced that when he went to get his Brit Award last time.

Mind you, when you think about it,it makes sense - I mean Batman was/is bigger than Prince has ever been in his own right so Prince fans AND Bat-fans would buy it.

I believe its also the best selling soundtrack of all time too

Um, no. Batman did not sell nearly as many copies as Purple Rain did. Purple Rain is, however, one of the best selling soundtracks of all time.

i highly doubt that its the biggest selling soundtrack of all time that title belongs to either "the bodyguard", "saturday night fever" or "grease".

and i don't think it sold more than PR, that album was HUGE!

I believe at its time it was the fastest selling soundtrack of all time. I think it went platinum faster then anyother soundtrack at the time...

that statements just plain wrong , the Batman soundtrack sold about 5-6 million I think , Purple Rain sold about 15-18 million , depending on which report you believe . I think the Batman soundtrack was the fastest selling soundtrack though at the time as someones alreadys said , and its probably the 3rd or 4th
highest selling album of his career, but nowhere nearly as successful as Purple Rain.

According to RIAA
fascinating chart... http://www.riaa.com/gp/be...albums.asp

Eagles GH Hold the Number one spot - 28.0

Saturday Night Fever holds the top Soundtrack - 15.0

Purple Rain - is at 13.0 (rank 34)'

Grease is definitely below that with 8.0

Last on the top 100 is Bob Segar/Silver Bullet band

Batman is NOT on the list.

Purple Rain is his top selling album of all time. None of the other albums have popped into the top 100.

Actually, by 1993, so more than 10 years ago, WORLDWIDE sales of "Batman" soundtrack were 4.6 m (four million and six hundred thousand) copies and WORLDWIDE sales of "Purple Rain" were at 14.7 (fourteen million and seven thousand) copies. So by far "Purple Rain" was (and still is) Prince's best seller either in US or in the world. Regarding other soundtracks "Batman" has no chance at all, either in US or worldwide. At a global basis, both "The Bodyguard" and "Saturday Night Fever" are above 30 million (the latter one at around 40 million double vinyl albums and single CDs), followed by "Titanic" at 29 million. "Grease" is somewhere between 25 million and 30 million (only in 1996-1998 sold 7 (seven) million on the re-release, and at least 4.6 million since 1991 in US according to Soundscan data, not talking about sales between the RIAA 8xPlatinum certification in 1984 and 1991..). So "Batman" was a succefull soundtrack but just that, nothing exceptional compared with the biggest sellers ever.

West Side Story sold well, but I think it gets mentioned in record books because it is the longest running number one album ever on the Billboard Album charts. It was number one, non-consecutively, for like 54 weeks or something ridiculous like that. For the more modern era, the record is Thriller, which was number one for 37 weeks. So West Side Story was number one for a very long time, but album sales being what they were in the late 50s that still isn't a huge number of albums sold (compared to Saturday Night Fever, The Bodyguard, or even Purple Rain.)

not even close...its purple rain....

I think some genius looked at Soundscan but didnt know that it only starts from 1990 or so....

the RIAA is where you would get the real info...PR has got to be like 30Million (worldwide) by now
