Has to be the original - I was really disappointed with the CB remix. I was waiting for something harder, more, erm, techno and spacier than the original. Instead we get typical american-lite-house which removed any excitement from the track at all. If that's what people were "slamming" to in clubs across the US back then, as it refers to in the notes, then they seriously needed a better dj!!
Oh, and BTW, I absolutely love the original. When that first came out I thought, "Yes, he's even going to show people how to do dance/techno" - only to be disappointed. It kinda resurfaced on "Melt With U" and then on "Human Body", but that's all we got. You know what I'd like, a Prince dance/synth orientated album - I'm sure it would kick, but has he got the motivation anymore just to do an album of pure dance energy? [Edited 3/16/05 4:36am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

He is like the encycolpedia of music. All kinds of styles. Alot of his other techno songs are alright. But Sleep Around-Ok I am going to admit it I like it it is chatchy but it sounds like something I can see on a Bally's commerical-like safe dance music for 30 something singles of the ninties. That thought makes my skin crawl. But on the remix I love when the guys are like "Let me see that body get LOOSE!" I love that part. Makes me wanna dance!

I hear ya and that's cool
Maybe it depends on just how much dance/techno music you listen too. I've listened to house/rave/techno/pyschedelic trance since 1989 and the line you speak of "Let me see that body get loose" is a tired, kitsch cliche. He should have let William Orbit remix it in to a proper dance tune (like he did with The Future). ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

the version of 'loose!' on the come album is my favorite. 'get loose!' just sounds too vegas-y to me, like it shoulda been in 'showgirls' or something. i do love when prince gets all electronic on us, though - 'i wanna melt with u' and 'the human body' are two faves of mine - add to that his kinda dark, electrofunk songs like 'thunder' and 'the future'...it's this kinda stuff that i can't get enough of from him, though it's kinda hard for me to imagine him recording stuff like this these days.

I love when his lyrics make me do a double take: "Does he mean...oh shit, he does!" Also: Push yo way up to the front and shake yo muthafuckin' 'do loose! just says it all. The Normal Whores Club

[Edited 3/16/05 4:36am] I too have always hoped for a bit of a dabble into the underground dance scene. From the few examples weve seen of him doing it though, it seems he doesnt really get it. There is a bit on the Rave DVD where just before he performed 1999 he was standing at a keyboard, it was dark with strobing lights, the keys were dirty and riddled with bass, he had a drum stick in his mouth and played a small drum at the same time as the keys, and the only accompaniment to play along with him was the THUMP THUMP of the kick drum... For me it is the best bit of that DVD and I can just imagine that deep bass and kick drum building and building and a serious underground new years eve party kicking off... Disco buscuits and all... Alas, it got ruined with the intro to 1999.

[Edited 3/16/05 4:36am] I agree, I've only been beggin for such a project for ever. Rumor is during the Hits/B-Sides days there actually was such a project. But then it disappeared off the face of the earth. (what else is new?) Anyway, I like the Come version better. _________________________________________

hey Jon!!
Totally agree with you there my friend. I too was salivating at that point in the Rave concert, thinking, "here we go - its gonna go full on dirty trance".....and then it didn't! I think he has the capacity, but I just don't think he's ever been that interested in doing it. The Human Body perhaps came closest - the intent of the beat is there and the way the percussion is mixed up and seems to swirl around you were all fine pointers but, as before, it ended up being an isolated "experiment", for want of a better word. IF he decided to commit to such a project (just synth weirdness and dance) I think the results would be spectacular. But, he won't! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

He may find it too repetitive... Also, I noticed that the attempts he has made have had acknowledgements to 'further programming by so and so'. So perhaps he doesnt like the computer side of it...
