Would a tour featuring Prince and The Cure work?

My friend believes that it would have. He thinks both artists are a lot alike. Or maybe at least 20 years ago they were a lot alike. You had Prince and his Purple empire and you had Robert Smith and his Gothic gang. They both used sytnths and guitars. They both sang about love, sex, and pain. But I don't really think they would've meshed together as touring mates. First off, The Cure might've seem too weird of a choice by Prince's standards despite the man being influenced by New Wave/Goth at that time. Also, Prince's music is very soulful and funky even when he takes on other styles like New Wave and Goth. The Cure's.....well.....it was soulful in its own unique way, but not really like Prince's. But remember, Prince was more hip to James Brown than the Velvet Underground and the Cure....vice versa.

But then again, I would give my left nut to see this if it did happen or if it had happened in the past. I love both artists and it would've been an incredible tour to see.

What do you think?

well, if the tour were designed for me, personally, and they weren't terribly concerned with making money outside of the tickets and merchandise i would personally buy, then sure. i think they should do it. nod

OMG...get real! The Cure would totally try to get Prince high and rape him.
Haters travel in packs and they are offended or threatened by klhk, haters express intense hostility toward the subject of hate. Haters are annoyed and roll thier eyes when klhk is paid a compliment. ask yourself, are u a hater?

Yeah, Robert Smith could drive us all to the brink of suicide.

Then Prince could come out and funk it up for us.

THen Larry G. could walk out, and we'd be ready to kill ourselves again.

It would be a rollercoaster ride for sure!

It would beat the hell out of Prince touring with Graham Central. That's for damn sure.

FUCK YES! Back in the day, around the Parade era, and the corresponding era for the Cure, this would have been a GENIUS idea.

I would just be happy with Prince doing a cover of "Bananafishbones".
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Sign O The Times and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me came out the same month, i think. I remember a lot of reviews at the time comparing the two, most of them agreeing on the genius and diversity of both albums (and they're both doubles which made the comparisons easy).
It seemed to me they were both in a creative zenith, and both seemed to be very playful with it(some of the stuff on Kiss Me...is wistfully gorgeous).
I like it when people mention Prince and The Cure together. I pretty much learned to play the guitar playing along to The Cure Live In Orange, and Prince Lovesexy Live. To see them tour together, or even on the same festival bill.....all i'd need is for Bill Hicks to come back to life and compare the whole event.....heaven!!!!!

well considering Prince has paired up with people like Kenny Rogers and Kate Bush, its not too much of a stretch. His RRHOF performance left me wanting to see him perform more with Tom Petty

prince may be my favorite artist, but there is no fucking way in hell that he could ever create an album as brilliant and devasting as Disintergration - his ego would never allow it - which is a real shame. Plus the Cure live are exceptional at recreating an album - NO FUCKING TIRED-ARSE HORN FILLS EVER NEEDED!!
Their live trio dvd is simply amazing - to take 3 albums with a vibe in common, and recreate them live to perfection in one show is something I can only fantasize about Prince doing - but it's something he's simply uncapable of ever doing.... Pity...

What you consider a weakness, I call a strength. I've seen The Cure live a few times and while they sound great, they are not the most exciting band visually. Prince is the exact opposite and really knows how to hold the audience's attention.

In the 80s, most of my friends were fans of The Cure and all hated Prince. So I think that a The Cure/Prince bill would have ended as an infamous show of the Stones where Prince was opening.
