Has PRINCE recorded..

...his own versions of songs that he wrote/gave to other artists or protogeés? Wether demo or live? I know about Martika's "Martika's Kitchen" (live). Were most of these songs from his "vault" (hand me downs); giggle or do you think or know that they were specifically written at the time for each artist?

a couple others I'm curious about.

Martika ~ "Love Thy Will Be Done" confuse (thought I had that by him.)
Celine Dion ~ "With this tear"
Sheena Easton ~ "101"
Elisa Fiorillo ~ anything

Would be nice to have a Prince covered by Prince album. lol If you know what I mean.

Thanks thumbs up!

Songs for others I've heared Prince singing...

Love..Thy Will Be Done
Martika's Kitchen
Spirit
Baby Go Go(rehearsal)
The Sex of It (rehearsal)
Screams of Passion(rehearsal)
Desire
Open Book
Databank
The Dance Electric
Get Blue
Love Machine

Most times, I think Prince will sing a song to use as a guide and have another artist re-record their vocals over his.

For the most part, expect that Prince has sung the lead track for every song he's recorded. There are a few exceptions, but it is usually him alone in the studio with the microphone hanging over the mixing consol. Sometimes, like on some of Sheila's early songs, you can still hear his voice.

Once he records his vocals, he has the singer basically mimic what he has done. Listen to MOVIE STAR. It is pretty obvious that it was recorded with THE TIME in mind. Morris would have rocked on that track.

There are occasions that he uses someone else's background vocals because his won't work. A great story is how he used the engineer in the background on the song "American In Paris" because he was bored with how his voice sounded.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I think that's the case. A good example is I Hear Your Voice, where Prince sings "I even bought a new dress, uh, but when I put it on".. that's a line for a female singer (does anybody know who?), well unless Prince is into wearing dresses.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

That's a song he gave to Patti LaBelle.

"Shhh" and Prince's version is far better than Tevin Cambell's.
