Nothing Compares 2 U I just learned this song over the weekend. I forgot what a lovely tune it is, never could stand the Skinhead O'Conner version though. How many versions of this has Prince released? I know of two:
1. One Night Alone 2. Hits (duet with Rosie) Are there more? what do you all think of this jam? Oh yeah, guitarists almost all of the tabs I found on the net were WRONG! If you wanna get higher, ya gotta get DEEP!

THOSE WERE REAL TEARS IN THE VIDEO! Sorry...I got a little of Turret's when it comes to Sinead...whenever I hear or see her name, the first thing I say is "those were real tears in the video."

I wish icould say Princes was better but the Live one from The Hits lacks any passion or feeling - at least Sineads has that.
Perhaps if there is a P studio version it will capture that

To hear the first recorded version you need to get The Family album.
Sinead only did this song because Steven Fargnoli was her manager and I think he got her to do out of spite. In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

This song was completely forgotten about and still would be if it wasn't for Sinead. FACT. Prince only started playing it live himself after she made it a hit. Does he ever play any other hits from that album? No. Well, occasionally Mutiny.
I know it's Prince's song but Sinead's is the definitive version. She gave it emotion that wasn't there before.

FACT indeed! love her or hate her, she put that song on the map. if not for her version, the song would be just another bit of prince fan trivia, and i'd bet that prince wouldn't perform it a fraction as much if sinead's version hadn't happened and taken off the way it did.

I think I would have to agree with you - her version is emotionally charged and she lends a great deal of sensitivity in her delivery. VOTE....EARLY

how about the original original? re the bootleg version of the family, with drums and full arrangement? that's how it should have been released. Keep your headphones on.

I love this one! Me too. I don't like Sinead at all. But I do like Rosie Gaines. She doesn't get the props she deserves; she haas a great voice. I wish she would have toured with him instead of Candy Dulfer on the Musicology tour.
