What's with all this unreleased crap? I have never heard of any other artist having so much UNRELEASED this and BOOTLEGS that. IT seems a good portion of the songs you all refer to are of this nature. If this is all unreleased, how is it possible that half the board knows about it?
And about the "no asking no telling rule", you can't expect a thread about members talking about these songs and someone to not ask about them. They're asking what albums are these songs on or where they heard them, NOT where they can get their hands on some illegal music.

The Mod wasn't moderating the contributor's words here = they didn't snip the words used. However, later in the same thread, the same Mod deleted some words where someone specifically infringed the rules in this respect. . [Edited 3/10/05 22:14pm] ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. She asked "where did you hear it" and "what album is it on" and then the mod replied with "CANT ASK".
I don't see what snipping words has to do with anything. I see what you mean about later in the thread but I'm talking about this quote specifically.

In any event, I thought I understood the rule but didn't understand why she couldn't ask what album the song was on.
Anyways, where does this material come from? Like how is it introduced to the public?

Do you think on this internet, that one of those places with the info might be on a PRINCE FORUM!?! What an idea! Why google it and read anonymous third-party information when I can get it straight from those on this site that get secret emails (and probably bootlegs) from Prince!? Oh and I didn't mean the music was crap, I just meant the whole situation with everyone referring to it all the time.

The thing that really pisses me off. Is back in the day I actually helped Prince with the bootleg problem and what really burns my ass. Is what they'd rather have those local stores selling the things for $30 a pop making a killing, or the true fans who buy everything anyway trading the stuff for free. They f'ing act like the cat is'nt out of the bag already. I mean cmon reality check. It just makes me furious now that the actual fans trade stuff that its way to late to prevent. To top it off back in the day, around mid 90's when I contacted Paisley Park with a desire to help, they actually told me they did'nt mind fans trading things. It was the store fronts selling them out the back or right out in open if what the concern was then.
When they were done with all my boots I'd sent them. They actually sent me things as gifts in return lol go figure. Which included unreleased stuff I did'nt have and could'nt be bought in stores. Granted they were on tape but still. Retarded.

Maybe next time I'll just ask Jeeves "How did bootlegs of Prince music get to the public." Or "I've heard people mention the song 'Electric Intercourse', what album is it on?" I'm sure he'd know. Even though it would never be listed in his song/discography which is the whole reason why someone would ask where it came from in the first place!

Even though it would never be listed in his song/discography which is the whole reason why someone would ask where it came from in the first place! You know what? You'd get the answers to all your questions if you picked up a copy of the book "The Vault" that Uptown magazine published last year. The book DMSR is also a good guide to Prince's recording sessions and his output. You have to understand that "Electric Intercourse" isn't ON any specific album. It may have been intended for an album, but when these demos are released as bootlegs, there are tons of different boots out there with any combination of tracks, many of which seem to be compiled with no rhyme or reason. There are no "definitive" bootlegs out there, or else they wouldn't be bootlegs. There are a few that try to approximate some scrapped projects - "Dream Factory" is a good example of that - but really, you gotta just root around and sniff out what you can sniff out, or wait for the man to release the stuff legit someday.
