Was Prince On Drugs In 1985?

Could Prince Have Been under the influence of some very powerful hallucinogen to release an album so full of shit like "Around The World In A day". after the massive capability ,sound and success of "Purple Rain" why, oh why did he realese this?? the album is barley average , the title track sucks, "pop life" is okay, Rasberry beret is shit. why he did that is truly beyond me and it is very dissapointing.

1. i think he was under the influence of wendy & lisa introducing him to different kinds of music.

2. if this is your opinion of ATWIAD, i'm very sorry to hear it. i happen to really like this album.

3. if you're presenting your comments about the quality of ATWIAD as fact, you're dead damn wrong.

Everybody has a right to their own opinion but my opinion is that your opinion on ATWIAD being 'shit' and 'barely average' is nutty.

After the Purple Rain album, ATWIAD was certainly like getting unexpectedly hit with cold water in how vastly different it was, but that's when Prince is at his most awesome, imo - when he comes out with unique, unexpected stuff that initially makes you go WTF? and then you realize how great it is musically.

Did you want him to release another album that sounded EXACTLY like Purple Rain or what? biggrin

You know Prince is a celebrity and has been in the business for over 25 yrs and like most individuals I am sure he has expermented with narcotics.
Most of his music now a days suck so bad he needs to get back on drugs or alcohol.
Haters travel in packs and they are offended or threatened by klhk, haters express intense hostility toward the subject of hate. Haters are annoyed and roll thier eyes when klhk is paid a compliment. ask yourself, are u a hater?

first time i heard ATWIAD was just a few weeks after i'd seen him live for the first time ever, and it was when i was eating, breathing and sleeping 'purple rain' constantly. lol when i heard the new album (my mom bought it the day it came out, as soon as she got off work), it blew my little teenaged mind to smithereens.

ATWIAD is great. nod

I love how different it is from PR, especially considering how quickly afterwards it was released. Wish I'd been there to have seen the reactions of fans when they first heard it.

ATWIAD was the album that seperated the true Prince fans from the Purple Rain Bandwagon fans...the people that got ATWIAD were gonna be in it for the long haul (like myself) the people that didnt get it at the time werent really going to be big Prince fans and probably went onto the next big thing in music..in my opinion ATWIAD is Prince's most important album and one of his best

I love ATWIAD.A true Prince curveball. A perfect follow up to the phenomenon that was Purple Rain. It took a little while for it to grow on me, but now it is one of my favs. I really respect prince for making this album.

ATWIAD is one of P's greatest, in my opinion. It's different (to this day) funky, from beginning to end. I love his variety. That's Prince. Get used to it (you obviously haven't already) because that's what's he's about. I don't understand people that try to compare why he does "this or that" when it comes to his music. He's done it all. It's 2005. Why are u still questioning his shit? GETT OFF.

Prince was doing some hardcore drugs to release a "far out" album like that at the height of his career.

Not necessarily. It also drove away the majority of his original R&B fan base that were loyal fans from the very beginning. Just because they weren't into this weird trip, doesn't make them any less of true fans than the ones he picked up afterwards.

hmmm I wouldn't call it a piece of shit exactly. Actually when Prince first came out with this alot of Prince fans were just as aleinated as you. But I really applaude him for doing something diffrent. Honestly it is the one of the Prince albums I rarley listen to. I just really can't get into it that much but It is not because it isn't good just because it really isn't my style. But some of the songs are pretty good you should give it another shot at a later date. And Rasberry Beret was one of my favortie songs on the radio growing up. Although I hate it now. barf Wayyyyy too overplayed now!!

ATWIAD has grown on me over the years, when I first got it ONLY Pop Life, Tambourine and Rasbery Baret caught my ear. Now I love the whole Album

Same here. When I first bought it, the only thing I could get into was "Temptation". The B Sides "She's Always In My Hair" and "Hello" kept me from being totally pissed. They sounded like the "old Prince".

In fact, I think he was on something in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987.

ATWIAD was probably one of the best work P ever did along with SOTT and Parade.
It would ve been so easy to make a Purple Rain II:The Sequel.(Like Mj Did)
the music although psychedelic-ish remains challenging and of great quality.

If any P album deserves consideration it has to be this one.

As for the drugs who cares?

Sorry but a lot of people feel that way about ATWIAD a total let down from Purple Rain. P was under the drug of Wendy & Lisa.
