Prince on Mtv Icon. [b]Prince was supposed to be honored on Mtv Icon.
He was next on the list after Janet which was in 2001. I don't know what happened. Icon is a show where Mtv takes an hour to honor aartist or group since they spent decades of work on their career. They have other artists or groups sing that artist or group's songs. It lasts 1 hour, Working up a purple sweat.

Back in 2001 Prince woulda been bitchin' all through the show
about those people performing his songs. Janet was up there, boppin her head, snaping her fingers and all that. Prince would have sat there giving the performers the evil eye man. If anybody would ask him what he thought of the first cover: "nah, it was ok, but nothing special. the song was perfect to begin with. why do you want to do it live? what do you gain from that? should I write you a new song? besides, are you gonna pay me for doing my song on national television? do you know how many cents I get paid on te dollar? do you own your master? have y'all met Larry yet? he's dying to play a 25 minute solo on da bazzzz cut to commercial and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Watching all those no talent ho's and wankers, who MTV would dig up to try to cover his songs, (you know MTV isn't about music and musicians but rather "hip" and "flavour of the week" products...) would be kind of embarassing and lame to watch... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

You guys are both wrong. Anytime I can see Prince's fine ass I don't care what the circumstances around it are.

Bottom line - MTV could care less about a TALENTED artist like Prince. Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

So true! Just look at who've they've given Icon status to in the past I think I can do without Prince being an MTV Icon.

I think Prince actually turned them down. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I've seen the Aerosmith show - majorly pretty lame, but Shakira's performance (I think it was "Dude looks like a lady") was the bomb. Steven Tyler possibly thought "If I have to die, why not right now" when she shook her ass right in front of his face (or he just had some problems hiding his erection...). Anyway, as far as I know, Prince likes Aerosmith. Back in 1994, MTV European Music Awards (he performed "Peach"), he said "Peace to George Michael, peace to Aerosmith... and death to Prince" (does this man ever watch old tapes of himself???). Back to topic: Some good performers (Sananda, Alicia Keys, Angie Stone etc.) doin' his stuff - great! The usual suspects (Usher, J.Lo, Ashlee S. etc.) - horrible! And: before they do this "icon" stuff, they just should get rid of these stupid "with Paris Hilton in Oklahoma"-like shows and just play some videos of the dude instead!!!

i'm not excited at the thought of anyone getting on stage singing Prince's songs except the man himself. I've already seen too many bad Luther and Aretha tribute shows
