what are Princes top selling singles.I am having problems finding that out.the riaa changed the standard of a gold and platinum single twice.it was 1,000,000 copies sold for gold and 2,000,000 copies for platinum up until 1989,then it became 500,000 gold and 1,000,000 platinum.and now its 100,000 payed downloads for gold and 200,000 payed downloads for platinum(and this is singles not albums).does anyone have the correct num,bers for the singles.once before i got the correct numbers for his lps from here,so i figured this would be the place for the answers i want.

If I remember right, "When Doves Cry" and "Batdance" both sold over a million copies. "Kiss" may have done the same. "Let's Go Crazy," "Purple Rain," and "Cream" may have sold at least 500,000. I'm sure someone will be around in a minute with the actual numbers. Peace.


edit: actually, since "When Doves Cry" went platinum in 1984 -- that means it sold 2,000,000 copies. I don't think Prince has topped that one. Anyway, people don't buy singles like they used to.

i'd never considered that until 1989 it was 2 million for platinum. so does that mean every gold single prince had until then did a million - ie i wanna be your lover?? thats quite interesting, it means he's sold considerably more singles than i thought!

but yeah i think WDC is his biggest selling single.

but what about singles like 1999/lil red corvette/controversy/alphabet st/raspberry beret and so on.is there anyway of knowing.plus alot of those singles were on the market for a while.i know i bought the batdance single like back in 2000 for the 1st time at a tower records.is there anyway of finding out?

some artists(like janet and mike) have went ahead and got their singles done .Like everything is all caught up.
