Don't you guys love the lyrics to that song? I am not a huge fan of acustic music but those words are just beautiful, funny and interesting. Prince really does think up some great lyrics. Some are funny, sexy, introspective but always brutely honest. I love how honest he is. Alot of people are afraid to really be truthful about what they are feeling; And Prince is brave enough not only to say it but let us all hear it. I love that man. We should all take some time to drink to that man today!

Yeah, I love this song too (though, its not really what you would term as an "acoustic" song per se - its just a mellow jam).

Great lyrics and feel - rarely have we heard Prince so carefree, wistful and yet "real-world" (eg - "Did we remember to water the plants today?" That's about as domestic as I've heard Prince get!)
...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Maybe not a sample per se, but it does seem to resemble much of the acoustic chord progressions from that track! Nice catch!

What do these lyrics mean? neutral Two 7's together...like time in definite?
As a matter of fact, I don't really get any of the lyrics.
Can someone explain them to me??

Hmmm...good question. I am thinking this was directly aimed at Wendy in referring to himself and her as 7's. I can figure out his "7" but what is her's? Her birthdate? Shoe size? Lucky he didn't pound her instead of Susannah? Who knows? The rest of the lyrics aren't as difficult to figure out.

I think he's actually referring to the year 1977 and that the time seems indefinite, or "neverending" because he is so young (he would have been 18/19 at that time) and time seems without end at that age. You know, he's reflecting back to a time when they had "fros" and "fishing nets and posters all over the walls" - fits perfectly.

The rest of the lyrics are pretty easy to understand, but if anyone wants any further help with them, I'd be glad to assist smile
