Controversy was a joint operation between Eileen Murton and Chris Dawson. They went their seperate ways and Controversy remained as Controversy and The Revolution was Chris'. I was member 301 with The Revolution which then went onto become the NPG.

Both clubs had very differnt views in they way they saw Prince, The Revolution and NPG reflected more of how I felt.

The Black Album draws the line for me between the two types of fans involved with each club. I smashed my black album which I happened to have given to me by a rep from WEA. This was a stand for me personally and was a view carried by the NPG. Contoversy on the other hand supported the black album. It was a simple black and white issue for me.

So your point being?

Not all that crazy about concert videos unless it is for a song like "It's goona be a beautiful night" or "Housequake" or some song that gets even better with the crowds energy. Some songs I think are just better suited for a traditional video style format and I think Glam Slam would be one of these songs. But yeah the song is awsome, it has always been one of my favorites. Oh yeah and Cat looked cool with the hoop earings and black hat in the video.

I love the video and the lil' dance moves he got goin on. I can replay the song for hours, it's so easy to like and sing along with.

I like it better than the video 4 "Alphabet Street"...but not as much as the video 4 " Wish U Heaven".

We all know that Prince communicates through his music and most of the time that which is relayed is very personal. Probably why so many are so touched. Prince is a musician/songwriter and as such this is how he expresses himself. If he were an artist it would be in paintings, if he were a writer it would be in books. The Black album is one of those sections of your diary you would want locked never to be read by anyone else.

The Revolution/NPG provided me with what I sought in a fan club. Reading articles that shared my views, meeting like minded people. Controversy did not provide anything of any depth and most people I met from there were all into bootlegs and just didn't see Prince in the same way I did.

No-one was ever asked to smash their album. A fan read an article written by the club - then called The Revolution - as to why you shouldn't buy the Black album. Tha fan made a special trip to the offices of the club walked in and in front of everyone there smashed his copy to pieces. This story was printed in the next newsletter and shortly thereafter the club started receiving black albums smashed to pieces in the mail. That original smashed album was framed and put up in the entrance of the office.

I met Eileen and Chris many times back then, not just at gigs but also at record fairs, and Eileen was definately the more grounded of the two. Without her and the club I would not have had the amazing experiences I had back then of getting priority seating at gigs and entrance into aftershows. I thought the whole "send us your copies of the Black Album" thing was way too extreme and kinda funny.

Having said that though, all the clubs served their purpose and were all great at the time, purely because there wasn't this thing called The Internet and it was the only way fans could get information on him. Anyone who remembers Eileen's recorded answer-phone messages will know what I mean .

Have to say though, I'm MOST impressed by your concert attendances. I've been to around 50 over the years and thought that was a lot! .

Oh, and back to the original topic, I love the Glam Slam video too. The Lovesexy gigs bring back the best memories for me as it was the first tour I'd been to see (missed Parade and the SOTT gig in London was cancelled), and I loved the theatrics of it all, especially as I was in the third row on the first night!
