Great NAACP Image Awards Profile on Prince.... http://www.naacpimageawar...guard.html
Check out the Great Bio on P: Prince One could wax poetic about the many talents of Prince: prolific instrumentalist, producer, singer, songwriter, Oscar-winning composer, multi-award winning artist, independent visionary, music industry revolutionist, ruler of his own empire. For an artist to have a career that spans over 25 years is monumentally rare. For that same artist to continually reinvent himself with perpetual momentum is sheer brilliance. His mantra: there is no need to dwell on the past when there is so much future before us. There's little need to reiterate the long colorful history that embodies the persona of Prince. From "Purple Rain" to "Lovesexy," from "The Gold Experience" to "The Rainbow Children," he is a constant metamorphosis of music and mystery. Thinking outside of the stratosphere, Prince has repeatedly marketed and planned his own business ventures, ignoring the scoffings of others, all the while knowing that the Master Plan would always bring his music to the foreground. In 2004, the industry stood up and applauded Prince's "comeback" only to be reminded he's been here all along. That February, Prince's electrifying Grammy performance with Beyonce captivated the audience with his music's timelessness. This was one of the many reasons why Rolling Stone bestowed him with the title of "Best Male Performer of 2004". March heralded Prince's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the first year of his eligibility. That same month, he launched the Top Money Making Tour of 2004 (according to Rolling Stone 2/24/05) and simultaneously turned "Musicology" into a certified platinum selling album, racking up over $2 million in sales. In an unprecedented business tactic, Prince again used his acute foresight by combining ticket sales with album sales, thus creating his fastest selling release in over a decade. Even the approaching end of the "Musicology" tour did not slow His Majesty down. Paisley Park, his studio in Minnesota, reopened as a full service, state of the art facility with the hint of possible "perks" in the air, gaining more popularity than ever. His website, www.NPGMC.com, won several prestigious online awards and has allowed fans privileged access to the artist's music -- bearing the grass roots of his soulfulness. Coming full circle, 2005 began with Prince migrating to Los Angeles where he stealthily embarked on covert projects to which even his own staff was not privy. His mysterious nature not withstanding his mainstream vitality, Prince reintroduced himself by throwing a post Golden Globe party, which People Magazine dubbed as "the hottest afterparty of the year." This would be the first of many swanky soirees that would have A-list celebrities vying for an invitation to "3121, the party place to be." In between hosting chic fetes and producing multiple projects, the ubiquitous Prince still manages to find spare time to take on more. He garnered two PollStar awards (Major Tour of the Year and Most Creative Stage Production) and won two Grammys for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. He has also been nominated for two NAACP Image awards and will be honored with the distinguished Vanguard Award in March. 2005 has shown no signs of slowing down the iconoclastic artist. His boundaries are limitless and ideas infinite. He will continually encourage, inspire and create an atomic fusion of cataclysmic results... even if it is in a fierce guitar solo. If there was ever a solid definition of an illustrious genius, one would simply refer to the artist known as Prince. -- Ruth Arzate Nice.
