Possesed! Yesterday was my birthday ...and the coolest thing happened...my dear friend who knows nothing ...at all...about Prince gave me the gift of Possessed ...she knows I like to read and knew someone, somewhere had to have written a book about the Man. She searched high and low (she doesn't "do" the Internet) and this is what she found. Is that too sweet? I am not crazy about the title but not familiar with the book either so...
Thoughts on the book are appreciated.

I have this book. It's very interesting and covers his career in good detail all the way up to the Xenophobia tour. It seems to be written under the assumption that after Sign O' The Times, Prince went downhill. I don't personally believe that to be totally true, especially with what he has been creating recently. Overall though, great read, very inforamtive, and the discography in the back is astounding (so much stuff).

Now you have to live up to this gift when it's her birthday, if that's possible.

I bought the book about a year ago and I've liked it. It gives you a glimpse of his life throughout his career, both personal and musical, but I'm glad it's mostly focused on the music. The writer's own opinion is a bit disturbing at times but otherwise it's a great book.

It is a good, but flawed book. There is a lot of great research in it with many exclusive interviews and insights into Prince that I hadn't read elsewhere. That said, there are several stupid factual errors that make it slightly flawed. You'll hear a lot of people who hated it because it seemed negative, but most of it is true and Prince doesn't always come out smellin' like roses.
The author, Alex Hahn, angers a lot of orgers, because they say that he has a grudge against Prince. What many of these people don't realize that is Alex saved UPTOWN from the lawsuit that Prince issued. He worked for free to defend UPTOWN's right to publish and because of him, we were able to continue UPTOWN's work to this day. If it weren't for Alex, there would be no DAYS OF WILD, no VAULT, and no UPTOWN. That alone is reason to give his book a quick read. Bottom line, it is a good book, but if you are looking for a great book try DMSR or Days Of Wild. Possessed, uses a great deal of their information as well as his own and it has Hahn's viewpoint, sometimes a little too heavy handed. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. It's a pretty good book. "Did u love somebody
But got no love in return? Did u understand the real meaning of love? That it just is and never yearns" ...Prince

I'd add to enjoy the gossipy, salacious tone of the book, and ignore the cry-baby fams who whine about the book being "negative". Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......
