Just think what could have been....

if Prince would have been happy with Warner Bros and didnt change his name to the prince just think how big The Gold Experience would have been..he was coming off 2 successful albums Diamonds & Pearls (double platinum) The prince album (Platinum) he was still getting decent radio airplay at the time and The Most Beautiful Girl In The World was blowing up....can u guys imagine with all the great material on that album how many hits and how many copies it would have sold? ..too bad we will never know its true sales potential
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

Yeah,it's pretty obvious that 'TGE' suffered (commercially) because of the feud with Warners. There were alot of potential hits on that album.I also think Prince should have cancelled "Come",released 'TGE' in the summer of 1994,with many of the songs that later got discarded: "Days Of Wild","Ripopgodazippa",etc.

The Gold Experience would have sold just fine even under the prince moniker as well if it would have been given a proper release at its intended time.

Gold Experience would have also been a bigger hit had Gold or Dolphin been released as the first single instead of I Hate U. I hate U somehow broke the Top 20 but it was mostly on sales. Pop radio wasn't pumping it and by the time Gold was released as a second single, the air was out of the album's tires.

That whole period between 1994 and 1999 is just filled with such ill will and wasted potential. Prince wanted to prove a point and in the end, he did win the war somewhat. A lot of musical artists owe Prince a debt of gratitude for changing the game as far as how much right to (and profit from) their works that they have versus the record company. But damn if Prince didn't lose the battle badly as he pretty much squandered 5 prime years of his career.
All good things they say never last...
