I just saw the performance of prince with dez, gayle, andre, matt and bobby on the American banstand show..

He was 19 and had everything 2 prove ...alot of people say his lack of talkin' aws down 2 shyness but I think he was just being cool..


any1 else seen it...and is there a bit when dez and p simulate a french kiss on the 2nd song they do WUWTMSB ??

Yeah I don't think he was shy at all. I thought he totally radiated confidence!

I could never figure out why Prince told a "fib" about his age. He was born in 1958 and that would have made him 21 or 22, but he told Dick he was 19. Am I wrong here?

He was joking because Prince had turned down previous record deals because they wouldn't let him produce himself and the average artist would have taken the deals. The reason that Dick Clark even mentioned that was to give Prince a complement.

Because it looks more impressive for someone at a younger age playing all the instruments than it would for someone older.

Yeah, I saw it. Like for many, it was the first time they saw P actually perform. I was already hipped to P from my older cousin who even at that time, adored P. I had his second album and really dug Bambi and Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad. I thought P acted silly and weird. Even my cousin who thought he could walk water, was kinda turned off. He was cool to watch when he was performing, but really, still to this day, P does not give good interviews.

Ya gotta remember that Prince totally reinvented himself in 1980 for various reasons, and this was just another one of those ways where he was trying to be different.
