SHHHHH AND NOTHING COMPARES 2 U u know...as much as i love the o(+> version..i also love the tevin campbell version of the song..when i first heard it..i was like..prince defnitly was all over this son..as i knew he was pretty into tevin at that time following grafitti bridge..i think the music n the whole feel of the song was great...i felt the o(+> version was a bit "draggy"?..i duno..jsut my opinion..nevertheless..its a princed track....n also on that note..when i heard sinnead o connors version of nc2u..i hated it so much..i was thinkin.."how could this song be such a big hit"..but then when i got the hits compilation..when i heard prince version...it quickly became one of my favs from the album...cuz prince realy made it 100 times better than ms bald...with rosie gaines..maan..the song had so much emotion n feeling..evn though it was live..even my brother n my best friend agree...wat do uall think? I think most fans will say the exact opposite of what you said. The lyrics to "Shhh" seem to fit someone Tevin's age... tho, the sexiness of it does not. And I immediately liked Sinead's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" except that she left the sax solo out.
Let's see what others have to say...

Shhhh : I prefer Prince´s version, but the lyric " do you after school like some homework " does sound a bit strange when sung by anyone over 21.
Nothing Compares 2 U : I know most people prefer Sinead´s version, but MY favorite version is the one from the Nude tour...just Prince and his piano, no background singers, no Rosie Gaines, pure passion, just perfect...Rosie is cool but I think she´s too dominant and should rather focus on her own career. The Nude tour version kicks ass...especially Buenos Aires and La Coruna. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Never heard Tevin's Shhh, but Prince's version is wicked, especially on the Musicology tour with John Blackwell!
Nothing Compares 2 U I think has been awesome recently, like on ONA live, Fillmore, Club Black, Ellen show, etc. Sinead's version is cool though. It's goin' down y'all.

I know I'll probably catch a beer bottle to the head for saying this, but I really like The Family version of NC2U. I love the sax part and the little "You-ooh-ooh" part that St Paul does at the end. I don't care at all for the Rosie/Prince version on The Hits. Sinead's is okay.
Tevin's version of Shhh sounds pretty good, but I really like the Prince version from Gold.

I like Prince's version of both songs better.
I like NC2U better BECAUSE of Rosien Gaines. I think she can sing her ass off. As for SHH, I wanted to smack the shit of out Tevin Campbell for covering that. Nobody can do it like P. When I saw him perform it live at the Musicology concert, I almost had an orgasm.

The lyrics help prove that. But that's probably the best example of Prince taking a song back and letting everybody know who it belonged to in the first place.

I wasn't sure who did it first, but you're right - P took it back and let the world know who it belonged to.

I used to like Tevin's version...that [is until I saw the Beautiful Experience and then bought Gold). Prince just sings those lyrics with so much more sexuality " dripping all over you like a ball of wax, relax and let go..". Tevin was just not very convincing IMHO.
Most importantly though, the music itself with the NPG completely changes the song. MB on the drums at the beginning and during the bridge, and of course...Prince on the guitar, subtle in the bridge and then BAAAAMM!! one of the greatest endings since Purple Rain. I have a faster, live version of Shhh from (Glam Slam West I believe) and it is crazy intense...the crowd is just losing its sh*t. Peace [Edited 3/3/05 15:00pm]

He wasn't convincing 'cause he didn't mean a word of it...Tevin's got issues with his sexuality. Got arrested a while back for SOLICITATION...of an undercover policeMAN. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
