I remember signing up my Email and address with one of Prince's early websites he had back in 1996. The thing was, I was online when the email came thru. It was like 12:15 am. I thought it might be wierd for employees to be sending out emails at midnight, or if they were on the east coast it would be 3am. Sooooo... I quicly added NPG17Days to my AOL "BuddyList" (which alerts you if someone on your list is currently online.) I believe that screen name was already gone by the time I read the email and changed my buddylist. So the next night, I was online from about 10pm on, and right around 12am my BuddyList showed me that NPG17Days was online. So I instant messaged, expecting it to be blocked. But it went thru. All I wrote was "hello". It took about 3 or 4 minutes before a "hello" was sent back. I wrote back saying that "I got your email, but unfortunately I'm working in New Mexico right now, and wont be back in L.A. for a few weeks, so I wont make the concert this time." After about 5 minutes a reply came back "There's a NEW Mexico?" (a joke). I asked "Is this who I think it is?" and got no answer for about 5 minutes, so I sent "A friend?" (P was constantly talking about calling his fans "friends" instead, at the time.) I got an immediate response "Friend, now there's a wonderful sound." I asked "Are you working on something this late or just surfing". 5 minutes pass I get back "Surfing". Then I get back something to the effect of "I have 2 go, I need to talk to someone who just came online" (those werent the exact words, except the "I have 2 go" which was the first time in the conversation he used a "2" instead of a "to") He logged on with the NPG17Days screen name a few more times that week, always late at night. I never instand messaged him again, I didn't want to bug him, and he seemed to not want to admit straight out it was him. After that week, I never saw that screen name on again. A month later, I checked the AOL members and that name was deleted/no longer in use. I saved the email and the AOL chat log, I dont know where they are now though. Somewhere around here. I sent a copy of the concert invite email to the "Uptown" news website. They said that I was the only one who reported the email and they weren't sure if it was legit. Anyways. Was it Prince? Maybe, maybe not. I kind of think it was. The only link to my AOL email and Prince was the sign up on his 1996 official website. cool... | |
