I absolutely adore the Time!!! They had to be the best Prince protege group; mainly because Prince wrote it all!!! I've seen them a couple of times in the last few years and would love to see them again. Sheila E would be a close second, I could do without the rest, even though they did have some snappy tunes.

I agree, but u'd b mad 2 give all the credit 2 Prince 4 the Time! Look at the difference in quality b/n when JJ & TL r present and when they're not! "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

THE TIME..and THE FAMILY..they really coulda been something, I think. (even though it was all done by Prince) but that album has been played over and over since 1985. I think the bands that prince devoted most time to had the best music - the Time, Sheila E, Madhouse, Mazarati & the Family.
we really will never know about Mazararti or the Family their chapters in prince's world didn't last long enough.

I think Sheila E and the Time are the most respected Prince protege acts.
I have seen the Time in concert about 3 times, and they put on a good show, even though they've been doing basically the same show with the same setlist for years. As someone said, the other acts like The Family and Mazarati weren't around long enough to make much of an impact. Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 were the least talented Prince-created acts.

the time and madhouse are the best out of them. the family ended too early to realize their potential potential. mazerati, imho, completely sucked. prince must've looked at mazerati as a farm for good songs. now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

No contest.
The Time In fact, 'What Time Is It' ranks right up there with some of Prince's best work. Funky, funky, funky.

On the evidence of what I've read here so far I would say that Jill Jones remains v underrated... Great voice "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Jill Jones is definately the most underated. Had her first album had any kind of promotion, she would have given Janet Jackson's Control album a run for her money. Mazerati and the Family don't even exist anymore, so it's almost hard to even include them. The Family's album was great and they definately had potential. I theink the fact that Paul Peterson's vocals were so similar to Prince's would have hurt them eventualy. The Time and Sheila E have earned plenty of respect away from Prince and have proven that they have enough talent and noteriety to make on their own. Definately the most successful Prince-spawned groups. "We can play 4 days! If it get dry, gimme that mayonaise!"
