out, damned spirituality spot! :sponge:

the whole faith thing has been ingrained in p for the longest. just because he's more in-your-face about it now don't mean squat.

In my thesis, I shall prove that this spiritual bent has been there more or less from the time of Dirty Mind. nod

I pray not. I like this new Prince.
Mark 12: 30-31: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as yourself

Prince is way too old for phases.Unfortunaetly Larry Grahm still has control over prince's mind and Prince does not dare disobey Larry. Larry Grahm is a wicked man but Prince cannot see his wickedness. He uses his Bible and his ability to play bass as a brain washing tool to keep Prince at his service. Larry Grahm is the reason for the clean image and the suits. I am against Larry Grahm! Larry Grahm is evil! Larry knows Prince is vulnerable. Larry knows Prince is sad. He has taken control of Prince! He has taken over Paisley Park studios. He has convinced Prince that the music he is releasing is good music. Larry Grahm is a lair! Rubuke Larry Grahm! Rebuke him!

Well, it is true that Larry put the leash on Prince's balls. I don't know if you saw any shows with Prince and Larry together, but Prince was sucking his cock like there was Cool Aid in there.

Yeah, actually I saw Prince and Larry back in '98. it was nowhere near the exagerrated mess that so many folks try to make it.
What's funny is that Larry is off somewhere minding his own business while others are losing their cool over stuff they have no control of.

The new Prince IMHO shows a maturity that is rarely seen in todays music. Don't get me wrong, I loved the old Prince. That was what initially brought me here but as we mature, we should grow in wisdom and Prince's new music shows that. It's refreshing.

no. he's alweays been spiritual. the difference is, with the old prince his spirituality was more open. he believed in god but didn't need to sencor himself to prove it.

with the new prince he's hooked into a non-mainstream, very formalized sect of christianity and tied into a set of beliefs that require him to put a damper on his creativity as regards 'immoral' content

It isn't that I hope its a phase. Long time ago I knew someone from the Prince camp and this person told me that when they got older they were gonna settle down and become a JW and I asked why and they said because they felt that JW was the only religion that explained the Bible the way it should be and that they explained the book of Revelation better than any other religion. I didn't say anything because I just didn't waste my time getting into religious debates with people.

I don't believe it was just Larry Graham that convinced Prince to be a JW. I believe this thought had been circulating for some time and that perhaps this person from the Prince camp maybe had heard it from Prince first and adopted it as their own. I think that when Prince and Larry hooked up that Prince may have felt it was time for him to go the religious route and that Larry just helped him make the transition. Prince was going through a lot of stuff back then personally.

I've met a number of people in my lifetime who look at religion like some people look at IRA accounts. That after they've done the wild thing and they start getting older and thinking about death and all that they can say to God, okay I'll be good now and start putting their spiritual dollars into the "I Want to Go to Heaven" savings account. Does it work? I don't know. I don't know if you can willfully go out and know you are being out of control intentionally and then saying okay, I'm gonna do the right thing now.

Prince can do what he wants and he will do what he wants and I'm not over here losing any sleep over it or campaigning for him to give it up. If he feels he needs to be a JW, so be it. But Prince does have a lot of sense and he's very intelligent and I just see him being lightyears above this JW thing and if he is a JW, I'm sure Prince has interjected a lot of his own rules into it because fame and JW don't go together if anyone remember the trouble Michael Jackson had when he was a JW and finally left the religion.

But whatever, these are just my thoughts and they don't really matter when it's all said and done. He's gonna do what he's gonna do and people will either agree with me or they don't. NEXT.

Exactly, except for the creativity part. Just because one chooses not to curse does not mean they've "put a damper on their creativity".
What fun is main-stream? We're talking about P here.
I don't believe in a new Prince or old Prince. I believe Prince has always been himself - a person who changes through life.

This ain't nothing new to me and y'all can forget about Prince going back to his "dirty days". When Prince changes, he changes forever and never goes back whether the public likes it or not. The change after "Purple Rain" is proof of that. Everyone thought that change was a phase also. Y'all might as well get used to the new "saved Prince".
[Edited 2/28/05 20:16pm]

Time may have stood still in 1984 for some (mentioning no names at all), but whatever changes came about following Purple Rain in 1985, were in fact followed by more and more changes. The question asked in the original post is whether this fact indicates that the latest change to a JW will also pass and he will change again (as he did so criminally after Purple Rain).

I've thought about this myself a fair bit and agree that his past would indicate an affirmative response. However, he is a lot older now and the changes that we all go through whilst maturing tend to slow right down so I'm not so sure. I'm an atheist myself but his conversion to the JWs seems to have been really good for him. Who wants to see a 50 yr old fucking microphones and swearing anyway? A lot to be said for ageing gracefully in my book.

People act like Larry introduced Prince to God.

Prince has been going on about god & Jesus since 1988 Remember the speech during Anastesia at Livesexy?

How bout "God" in 1984? How bout 4 the Tears in Ur Eyes? "Punch a higher floor!" Thanks 2 God on just about every album.

He's not overtly sexual anymore because that's how people have pidgeonholed him and he wants to defy expectations. Once people know him as "that religious dude" instead of "that little pervert" he'll become something else.

Plus, he's not 18 anymore.

He started turning white, made neverland, child molestation cases, made dumb music like History and Blood on the Dancefloor. He is the laughing stock of humanity now. It sure got better didn't it.
