Do you think Prince's Jehovah faith is just a phase? What is your gut feeling? Mine is I think he is gonna dump it soon, Prince doesn't seem like the type to be restricted in any way or belifes. He always seems to like to develop his own paths and ideas. I think the faith was good to bring him back down to reality after the mid ninties but I just have a feeling that it won't last. He always acts like something will be the way it is forever for the rest of his life like Mayte, name change, and remember when he said he was staying in London untill 1999 way back in the mid ninites? He just seems so inconsistant I just can't see the faith lasting. Ten years from now I can see us like Oh yeah the early 2000s-The Jehovah Years! In fact I think the only thing we can count on him being constant with is making music and his love for music-which is ok with me!

To be honest, I don't care what religion he is/isn't.

I do think he may have gone a bit koo-koo with it, the self-censorship and such, but I'm not sure that's all entirely to do with being a JW, he expressed ideas about swearing that are more to do with psychology and effect of the media on the masses.

I think, if he does stay in the cult, then he may mellow out a bit about it all. The idea of censoring your entire past body of work is a bit much, and could hint at denials about one's past - maybe he'll chill out on that front a bit and accept that his past is part of him, now.

He's not a lot different than he always has been. If he has toned down anything it is more than likely do to aging gracefully, rather than his faith.

No, give up if you think you are going to see that Prince who is polemic and curses, he is a 46 year old man, he lost his mother, father, and son, he lost his soul mate too. Yeah. When I really look at it, he hasn't changed that much. Lyrical alteration not withstanding, his music is where I expect it to be. Sometimes he's just a bit too preachy for me, but, well, put it this way: I think if tomorrow he said "There is no God" out of the blue, his music would still sound the same. This ain't nothing new to me and y'all can forget about Prince going back to his "dirty days". When Prince changes, he changes forever and never goes back whether the public likes it or not. The change after "Purple Rain" is proof of that. Everyone thought that change was a phase also. Y'all might as well get used to the new "saved Prince".

I think the JW thing will be just a phase, more or less. Prince is an ever-changing person. It will leave a strong impact on him, but really, is he really that devout a follower? Is he following all the rules strictly? I think when it conflicts with what he wants to do musically, he manages to sidestep the issue and still go ahead with it.

His music is less aggressive - but that could easily be as a result of getting older gracefully.

He's given up swearing. That really shouldn't effect the quality of the music.

His lyrics aren't bluntly sexual. Well, he's done that to death in the past anyway, time for a change. Besides, I would still argue that his music is still sexy and sensual, just without being coarse.

People talk like the old Prince is lost to us - he's not lost, he's in all that music produced in the past, just go listen to it if you wanna hear that Prince. How much more of that Prince do you need?!

its possible, it could be just a phase, but if he gives the jehovah religion up, his wife will have to also. whatever steps he takes she is taking it with him because she's his better half (at the present moment). But if he does chooses to give up the faith, then the next phase won't be one we have already seen, it will be a new one...just hope that it won't be a sell out phase or anything like that. I like the way he is for now, plus he hasn't really changed that much if you think a little about it....
