are there any singers or groups encroaching in on your Prince space? I love Prince and will always list him as my favorite artist, but more and more over the years i have found myself allowing myself to get into a lot of other artists now, mainly Maze, The Stylistics, Ray, Goodman & Brown and a few others (I'm 36 by the way)...anybody else kinda sharing their Prince space with some other artists? you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

oh, definitely. for a few years when i was a teenager, all i cared about was prince and a few other artists from the '60s that i grew up on and considered influences on him. then i started watching stuff like 'night flight' and mtv's '120 minutes' and getting turned on to other kinds of music, and i started exploring all kinds of other stuff...thankfully. i don't think it's at all healthy to fixate on one musical artist or genre.

of course. listening to one person or musical genre gets pretty dead...i like my stuff pretty fresh.

Over the past several years, I must admit to a growing admiration for Seal and his music. His approach to songwriting and producing is simply top notch and like Prince, the man is a true poet and a master of harmonies. He's such an under-appreciated artist, exspecially in the african american community. But man, what an enormous talent he is.

Prince has been my favorite artist since 1979 but I have always loved and bought records from tons of other artists.
As far as favorites go, I've always loved Rick James almost as much as Prince. My third favorite would be The Barkays. Then there would be Roger & Zapp, Cameo, Lakeside, Con-Funk-Shun, Midnight Star, Ebonee Webb, Bill Summers and Summers Heat, Donna Summer, The Dazz Band, The Gap Band,.....the list is endless. I listen to other people when I go into "Prince overload".
Like this morning I listened to Ok Computer in the car instead of Controvesy. Even though Private Joy is playing as I type this its good to be well rounded If you will, so will I

yeah, pretty much the same groups you mentioned, as well as EWF, The Moments (before RG&B), Brick, Dazz Band, and on and on and on. "I don't make the rules. I just play"

Lately, Kenny G. has been slowly chipping away at my Prince time--especially since their music sounds so much alike now.

Not really.
I love a lot of other artists, like Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Stevie, MJ, etc. But all of them are easily miles down from the mountain peak at which Prince and his music sits. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

as of late
Franz Ferdinand Keane The Sex Pistols Maroon 5 Joni Mitchell The White Stripes The Zutons. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Well, Prince is my #1 solo artist (with Bowie in a close second), but the band in my avatar remains my overall #1. Prince would probably be 4th or 5th overall. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

No. I like listening to a variety of music. Prince is my favorite but he's not the only artist I listen to. Unfortunately, there have been few new artists over the years that have made me want to go buy their records.
I prefer classic rock. and classic R&B ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

my entire music collection has been encroaching on my prince time. i just got a digital music player last week and i've been loading all my CDs into it and playing it on shuffle play...so i'm literally listening to a little bit of everything.

It is possible to have 2 loves...my #1 love is Prince, but Maxwell is a very close second love. Doesn't it make you smile when you realize no one was there to see the stupid thing you just did?

Nobody has the orginality or that "Style" when it comes to this man... I don't think no one will ever make me listen to them as much as I do this man... He's too Bad!... No one else can touch him. Paul G II
