...and she got baptised by The Holy Spirit -- that's not delusion, that's for real if you even know -- and then to be used by God through your spiritual giftings... that's some awesome stuff right there! This ain't no joke.

pray

By "deluded rapture of worship" i just mean that many spend time in church singing, praying for help, praising Jesus, talking about their personal trials and tribulations, etc (ie: passive)

In a more practical sense people should realize spiritual nobility in everyone and make every moment a choice to help others, be compassionate and work towards the positive enhancement of all lives great and small. (ie: active)

Having a questing and open mind to explore all spiritual traditions, philosophies, psychological paradigns and archetypes, social morays and cultural differences would be the ideal. It takes fortitude to have "truth, no matter what that is" be ones goal, as opposed to have a personal "belief" as ones goal. It is disturbing to me only because more often than not, people just accept views of the universe simply based on what religion they were raised in or what race they are, or culture.

Maybe Denise has become a christian evangelist because that is only what all she was familiar with.
Her country, family, friends, race, sex, age, and so many variables shape (and can also limit) her views.
Even those who aren't religious or who don't believe in a God can be found praying for help in dire life and death circumstances. After her serious medical prolems, i notice she didn't become an Anglican preacher, a Quaker devotee, Islamic fundamentalist etc. ...

Prince also has a connection with JW because of his mother -
If she, or Larry Graham and that circle friends were of another spiritual tradition perhaps Prince would have been receptive or persuaded to those ideas as well. shrug It seems best to always have an open mind in all things.

I enjoyed Vanity's music (especially romantic voyage) and hope that she will realize that music is a tool to help inspire and also entertain. I'm hoping she will continue to be friends with Prince and have a musical relationship again.

If she is on tv again - please post the info. thanks a million biggrin

(i ramble a lot - sorry for the long post.) wink

His mom wasn't a JW. He think he was introduced to JW's maybe as a child someone coming to the door. But More than likely as an adult(entertainer) by Benson, Larry, who knows maybe even one of the Jacksons (rebbie?). Its funny how most on this thread praise Vanity for her spiritual change (as i do because at least she has a cleaner life and focuses on her spiritual needs) but they shun prince who may have gone thru some of these same things as vanity . Congratdulate one its only fair to congradulate both.

It is sad to me that she has replaced one addiction (drugs and reckless lifestyle) with another (christian evangelical preacher) - she, like many evangelicals, seem to have so much drama in their lives then look to be "saved" from their once spicy ways. She had a very troubling childhood which most likely led to her psychological and physical dependencies.

In my opinion - clarity and truth of reality doesn't come from the haze of drugs and superficial activities -nor does it come from deluded rapture of worship and dualistic views. In every moment we have an opportunity to be the most caring, compassionate, open minded and generous person we can be.

I hope Prince and Vanity are still friends and will sing together again someday. cloud9

I sorta thought that is what Jesus died and rose for..so that we can turn away from our destructive lives and live knowing that there is no condemation to those that love him.

Humans get so frazzled about the past experiences of those who are now saved...Jesus doesn't.

This is what usually happens. At the church I attend, there are a lot of former drug abusers. Many of them are born-again Christians but take the religious aspect of that way too far. There's a difference between having a close relationship with God and playing too much into religiosity. But, hey, if it helps one to cope with their past and gives them positive motivation for the future, then good for them...

If it brings one peace, then I'm all for it...

Thats what I've found church to be. Lots of ex druggies, alchies and prisoners.

druggies, alchies ....lawdy shake

come on now...lets be sensitive to those in recovery.....

Prince, Congrats and I hope the peace that u were never able to find has found u....

(I think the reason people don't applaud Prince's change is they don't like what it's done to the music (they want the old Prince) but..like my rant in another thread...LET HIM BE

Vanity is a bit old now, but if she wasn't an evangelist, I would like to spend a few hours in her house. I would like to see how wild she is in bed. She would probably want to do some bdsm.

I doubt it. Mani looks pretty good weight-wise. Vanity, on the other hand, seems to have let her body go. Last time I seen her it looked liked she had put on some weight and getten a lil chubb-ish. Not sexy thick, but chubb-ish.

Well, they've both found the lord, so they have that in common (different religions but, thats not important) plus, they have somewhat of a history together and as far as the weight is concerned...I'm sure she'd lay off the pork chops to lose 20 lbs for her little king kong.

For once and for all-- Purple Rain's Appollonia character was based on Vanity, wasn't it? confuse

Yes, Vanity was working on the set of Purple Rain but, then she and Prince broke up and she was replaced with Appollonia.

PREACH ON MIDNIGHT FUNK! very well said.

PS that was the devil that told you to throw out your prince music. LOL!! just kidding.

I think I just needed to purge everything related to a weird time in my life, and I was getting some pressure from some new friends....
I stripped down my life, found who I was.. and the Funk came back...

I think you're right and thank God that you realize the difference between having a personal relationship with God versus getting too involved in the religiosity of it all. That's what I meant by going from one addiction to the other. Some take it to the extreme and feel that you have to give up everything that is secular; for some, I think purging all that is secular can be very liberating and can help the person change his/her perspective on everything of the world. But I do not believe that one can or should divorce oneself from EVERYTHING worldly. I also didn't mean to imply that people who do this are "fanatical" about what they believe. I have a wonderful relationship with the Lord, but He has NEVER told me to throw out my music. Again, if one believes that the music is a hindrance to their spiritual growth, then I can understand that. The bottom line is that it is a very personal transformation, but I also believe that that transformation can be dangerous if we place too much faith in religion and not our own spirituality. There's a very real difference, in my view. Religion can get people into trouble because we try to reach standards that we'll never be able to. For the addict, it can be as painful as having a relapse. It is more important, in my view, to strengthen that relationship with The Creator rather than trying to show how pious one can be. I hope this clarifies my point and makes some sense...
