PURPLE REIGN: Talkers talking about Prince having hosted numerous record people for several Grammy-week shindigs at his L.A. domicile. Word from inside the Prince camp is that the Purple One is looking for a partner to release his next album, which will reportedly be a collection of acoustic versions of songs from his extensive catalog. His last album, Musicology, was released by Columbia in a one-album deal. Is he looking for another one-album arrangement? (2/18)

well, i guess that whole "dancer" theory is thrown out the window..but then, i guess if they are old hits it could be "revolutionary" sounding..

and i guess wendy and lisa could participate in the revolution era stuff...

Yep -- there was a post like this about a year ago, almost word for word... so, nothing new, but sure would be nice to know if it was true or not. The rumor mill sure is churning up some shit, ain't it?

There's also a follow up album in the works--pretty Avant-garde material.

It's an instrumental RAP album and the only instruments
played are the skin flute and meat whistle.

You are right about it all just being rumors. We should be happy with whatever comes out whenever it comes out. He's a prolific artist and we should remember that we are spoiled with the number of albums that he has released officially and really spoiled if you are collector of unreleased material.

I'd love to see another acoustic album. The Truth was damned good.

But I want some new stuff. I don't want to hear the well-worn classics again in a new recording.

So, I hope this is not true. I don't want to see a "Revolution" reunion this way. It's too easy.

Prince has a kick-ass catalog, but he can't ride it forever. He aint dead yet.

Make some NEW kick-ass music, Prince.

Basically there's strong rumors for three new releases, and until one
or all of them get released, who knows what will happen...

1. Acoustic Album (acoustic versions of hits. Unknown as to whether this is
just a collection of live renditions taken from the acoustic segments on the
Musicology tour, or whether they've been re-recorded in the studio)

2. Musicology tour DVD (unknown as to which show this would be, or maybe it's
a mixture of several shows. Strong rumors are that this DVD and the previously
mentioned 'Acoustic Album' are to be packaged together as a single release)

3. Brand New Album (unknown as to what musical direction this would take, but
rumors are it will contain both commercial 'hits' and more experimental
material).

From what I've heard all 3 rumors look like they're true. It's just a matter of
what will actually get released (first). If the DVD/Acoustic album goes ahead,
then the 'New' album will get delayed until the final quarter of 2005 or maybe
2006 (by which time Prince would probably have changed it or scrapped it in
favor of even newer material). If the DVD/Acoustic album release takes to long
or falls through then it might get shelved completely in favor of the New
album. So at the moment anything could happen. If the DVD/Acoustic album is
marketed as a 'Live DVD' with the Acoustic album just being a kinda bonus, then
he might release the New album a lot sooner.

I just hope that something has been decided yet and we don't know of it because if he's still thinking about it or negotiating, it might take longer and longer.

Personally, I'm all for the live DVD coupled with the acoustic CD and a new album SOON thereafter.

But nobody asks me.

maybe something big is gunna happen? i would like 2 remain hopefull cuz lately in the last month or so i've been hearing prince on all the toronto radio stations..i mean my sister calls me daily to put the phone 2 her car radio while LGC or WDC is on...mind u it's all retro stuff...they played WDC on muchmoremusic last week and i just saw IWD4U like 5 minutes ago (damn i love that white outfit) which is RARE ESPECIALLY on muchmoremusic...because of the sudden abundance of prince maybe we should be expecting something soon and maybe these rumours all boil down 2 the same thing....


or maybe i just scored some extacy...who knows....
