Now my absolute favorite song on the Musicology album is Marrying Kind. That is just a damn jam - the music, Prince's voice...what it's all about. I like What Do U Want Me 2 Do, the mood reminds me of Dorothy Parker a bit - especially with the heavy bass line. My least favorite songs (the ones I always skip) are Life Of The Party, Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance and Cinnamon Girl...sorry I just couldn't get into those three. I AGREE 100% WITH YOU! THOSE SONGS YOU MENTIONED ARE THE WORST ONES, BARELY LISTENABLE. THE OTHERS ARE FINE.

I think u're all talkin shit,
Musicology was one of his best SONGS in years, U all spend each day wondering what his next album will sound like "oh, will it be funky", u all seem 2 want funk, but when u get a true funk classic like musicology, u all shit on it!!!!! U should have let me down easy,
If u had no plans 2 please me!

When I heard it the first time I was horrified. The weakest single he has ever released alongside with "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold". Sounded like one of those weaker NPGMC downloads. It grew on me a bit - it serves as a nice intro to the album - but I'd take "The Work pt.1" over it anyday.

God yes. When I heard the little snippet on Tavis Smiley, I thought "Sounds funky, and I wonder what it'll sound like once the hook really kicks in." Then I heard the whole song and was mortified. There was no hook, no real chorus; nothing! Just one bassline throughout. That was the song. It made me feel like Prince had forgotten how to construct a pop song. To this day, I still don't know what The Kid was thinking releasing this as a lead single. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

yes, Musicology is terrible and so is life o' the party!! I would be mad if i had payed for this cd! (and i am a die hard fan!) I got it free at the concert. It grew on my only because seeing him live in LA staple center 13th row! I do like Dear Mr. Man and cinnamon girl(lyrics only.) The love songs I just picture him singing to me and the rest is history!

When I first heard it on Jay Leno last year it didn't make me go "WOW" like alot of the first time I heard Prince tracks but I kinda like it now. I find myself putting on Musicology just for that track sometimes. I really like the sound effects on the guys tap dancing in the video. It sounds intense.

Seriously, this is barely even a song. At least songs like LOTP or Cinnamon Girl actually had some type of chorus or hook (though not good ones, I'll admit). Musicology is just one really boring beat throughout that never kicks into second gear. Plus, Prince of all ppl name dropping past artists in a song? Ugh. Besides, the synth at the end is directly lifted from My Computer. Overall, it sounds like an unfinished demo of parts of a whole song. Maybe if U had been around back in the REAL days, you would enjoy the track a bit more "I don't make the rules. I just play"

It's boring like Musicology, and if there's one thing I didn't think Prince could be, it's boring. What Do U Want Me 2 Do is my favorite song on Musicology. I can't stand those overblown Broadway-esque songs in the middle (The Marrying Kind/If I Was the Man...) or the overtly cheesy songs (Life 'o' the Party/Cinnamon Girl), but the rest of the album is . Now here is an individual who knows what they are talking about. What Do You Want Me 2 Do IS the best joint on the album. PERIOD!!!!! All the gals say hoe if your man's giving up the gold. All the fellas say ruff if you're only giving up the bone.

I wouldn't say it was the worst, but it's way down the list for sure.
It's those tacky lyrics that make me cringe "Save the old school joint for the true funk soldiers" (!!!!) Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

AFine1 said: The one song on this album that I really don't like is Reflections. I mean the lyrics make absolutely no sense...just ramblings
Although it's a flawed lyric, I think "Reflection" is the best one on the album. I like how thoughts of his mother snap him out of a nostalgic mood, but then he can't resist thinking about "all the way back in the day". And the close about sitting out on the stoop, playing his guitar, ends the album on a sweet, melancholy note.

I like Musicology... but to me Cinnamon Girl is just awful "Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies -

Anxiety said: sorry, i love that bass line.
my least favorite song on the album is probably "on the couch". i kinda liked it at first, but it got old quick. I had to reply to this. The other day, I had Prince on in the background. Boyfriend and I are doing our thing and "On The Couch" came on... Right when P sings "don't make me sleep on the couch", the boyfriend busts out laughing and says "Oh my god, what is he talking about." We get back to business, but both of us couldn't keep a straight face through the song. Best believe I got up and changed that shit.
