Can anyone help me find out what track or artists I overheard today at the shops? Ok I'm pretty sure it wasn't Prince but it all sounded VERY Princey. A nice slow track sung with a falsetto voice akin to If I was your girlfriend or The Ballad of Dorthy Parker with a bit of I Hate U thrown in for good measure and without the signature Prince drumbeat if you know what I mean. Could have been male, female or a band. A bit delphonics but not anything off the Jackie Brown soundtrack. Couldn't really hear the words either but they may have said "If I was" or elce I was just imagining I was listening to If I Was Your Girlfriend. It gave me the same feeling I got when I heard If I Was Your Girlfriend for the first time (the track which ultimately turned me into a Prince Head). I even asked the staff at Heatons (the name of the shop I was in, obviously) and they told me it was some shop radio mix stuff that kept getting repeated over and over and was doing their heads in. It was followed by some kind of Shania Twain slow song I think whether that matters or not. They may not even have been singing proper falsetto but it was definately a cross between Prince and the Delfonics or mabye even someone like that dude who sung "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off", I always considered that to be VERY Princey too.

It wasn't Prototype but that is an excellent track too, good shout. Mr. Happy might be right cos I've no idea who Plant Life are though he's one of the Mr. Men and he's named after the worst Prince track ever so how reliable could he be?

Co-sign - excellent record. Although listening to it the first time, I thought it was just OutCast with a new alias... But really good... [Edited 2/21/05 2:18am]

Ok I couldn't find a sample of If I was Your Man but I did get to hear Why'd U call me and I know we's on the right track now. I wonder who those country & western dudes are who are pretending to be plant life on amazon?

Strange that u mentioned that song ("We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" -Jermaine Stewart) - i was just watching and taped the music video recently - it was played on VH1 classic or was it one of the digital music channels - - i forget. i discovered sadly that Jermaine died in 1997. It is easy to see Prince's influence on his style and music. "We don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time. - Oh no! We could dance & party all night and drink some cherry wine. - Uh huh!" "All of me give 2 thee down at your feet ...
The reassurance in your rhythm speaks 2 me." -------------------------------------------------------- "I wanna hold U, wrap U up in lace. And I wanna kiss U, kiss U all over your face."
