you kidding? the eastern key hook is genius. It's so much more engaging just because of that eastern key hook than many other prince songs... My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Hardly! skywalker said: Here's the deal--- I'm generalizing, but a lot of older Prince fans never thought Prince should have mixed hip hop in his funk. The Gold Experience ( the era, the attitude, the band, the look) was to me what 1999 and Purple Rain was for a lot of others-----I dig Prince's take on rap/hip hop. So you have a big batch of P fans who don't like Prince doing hip hop because they think he is "above it". That's why NPS, Emancipation, P Control and songs like Illusion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstance get bashed.
I mean, look at Metro Area's favorite artists. He/she is most likely an old school funkateer( noting wrong with that) who doesn't want Prince mixin' in the hip hop. Skywalker, I don't have a problem with hip-hop, per se. Admittedly I don't like a lot of it, and I CERTAINLY don't like the trash that's riding high in the charts at the moment, but done well, it has merit like any other genre. And I don't mind Prince's take on it either - I think P.Control and Face Down are both excellent takes on the genre by Prince. I like a lot of older Funk, but I'm not an 'old school funkateer' (I think you say that because you didn't know who the rest of the artists were in my list ), I just can't see why Prince would shit out these turds that try and grab the coat tails of the top 40 fad of the moment, his stuff is above that, or at least it can be. » MetroArea [Edited 2/20/05 23:41pm] Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

My only complaint is that the song starts off too rough.. his voice sounds crappy and its very tempting to push the NEXT button

It's just average, in my opinion. The worst tune on Musicology is far and away "Cinammon Girl," which is the derivitive, uninspired rock tune Prince has ever come up with.

I,C,P&C is the best thing that happened on the royal scene since erotic city.
it is way funkier than anything he released during the 90'ies. its a freak. everybody should be screaming the top of their loungs, thankin' the lord above that prince put out a funky track again. not the titletrack-musicology polished kind, but raw, minimalistic funk. it should have been released as a single with a minimalistic stripped down video without glitter nonsence. it would have put prince even higher on the top of 2004, but let's wait and see if not he releases more of this raw funky shit during 2005.

PurpleKnight said: vainandy said: That's my favorite on the album. What'd you think of the album overall anyway? Typical Prince since 1985. Listen to it the first time and one or two songs catch my ear, then hate the rest. Listen to it some more, then more and more songs start growing on me. Most of the time, all of the songs eventually grow on me, unless it's something rediculously boring like hip hop, accoustical, folk, or classical. I already liked the song "Musicology" before the album came out. "Cinnamon Girl" and "A Million Days" caught my ear immediately. Then "What Do U Want Me 2 Do" started growing on me. These three songs reminded me of late 1980s Prince. Then "On The Couch","Reflection", and "Dear Mr. Man" grew on me. "Call My Name" is one of my least favorites but it's OK. "The Marrying King" and "If Eye Was The Man In U'r Life" have grown on me slightly but probably never will fully because I feel a slight hip hop vibe on these two. If that vibe wasn't in there, these two songs might could fully grow on me like Prince's late 1980s work did. I still can't stand "Illusion, Coma, Pimp, & Circumstance" and "Life O' The Party" and probably never will. [Edited 2/21/05 1:44am] Andy is a four letter word.

Well it's not like I expected a blanket 'we don't like it' response, since it was the large support for this "song" that prompted me to make an unappreciation thread in the first place, so it's clear a lot of folks like it. Still, I do wonder how anyone can say it's "funky" Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

well I personally think "Face Down" is too conservative to be really funky for me... it a straightforward old school formula, musically speaking. Illusion is funky to me because it's structured like a spastic pump that suddenly grooves into its chorus and then rides along on its end. Is it the speaking style vocal that is throwing you off? Do you like the studio version of Days of Wild? Not the the live one, but the studio one?

This song straight out of the Emancipation/Newpower Soul puke-fest. Now I kinda like Newpower Soul, in the same way I like Lolly, Big Fun and Milli Vanilli - I like the crapness. But ICP&C is just a horrid, horrid 'song' - There are often many comments about it on forums like .org, about it being "funky" and such out of date buzz-words as "off da hook", "da bomb" and other such phrases. I'm here to inform you, ICP&C is a horrid track, it represents EVERYTHING that is bad about Prince's output since the mid-90s. The people who like ICP&C are the people who love Top 40 music circa-now. Show your DISTAIN for this awful, awful song - show your support for it too if you enjoy being seen as the chimp that you are! » MetroArea [Edited 2/20/05 14:27pm] Looks life you have placed yourself in the monkey cage - probably the best place for you. And Prince, release something soon, the inane nature of threads here these days is getting scary!

Actually if u had 2 ask me i find da lyricz kinda funny!! And Prince's vocal inflectionz at certain partz (tellin da story with a certain humourous emphasis) is quite witty. Life'o the party- okay, i actually like this song- why is cause i could imagine it being played live!! Da percussion!! Love da percussion. Da female vocalz are a bit 'outdated' (in an early nineties kinda wayz) but i can see da potential in this song where most otherz fail to. But datz just me and da way i percieve thingz i guess. When I first got Musicology, I only like a few tracks, then the rest grew on me. The only one that I still don't like at all is What Do U Want Me 2 Do? That one's the worst track on the album, IMO. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
