The song was written by Prince (way back in 1979!) and later re-recorded and given to Paula. I think she just sang over his production, so that may well be his voice in the background.

well, it is his song, submitted to her for the album.
I haven't heard it in ages so I can't remember if he is or isn't on backingvox. But in a lot of instances where Prince gave another artist one of his tracks, they just recorded their own vocals over the complete original backingtrack laid down by Prince. So in many cases, even his own backingvox remain on the final tape of the mix. Just listen to the old "The Time" albums Prince had nothing to do with it yeah right and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Hmmmmm.... on first glance through my music collection, I can't locate my "Spellbound" CD in order to answer your question definitively (but when I do I'll have to bump Vibeology, my boyfriend cracks UP when I sing that one to him!)...
But yeah, what IstenSzek said. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

"Oh, the vibes, the vibes..." That's a cool song. Damn, I haven't listened to Spellbound in YEARS. And Prince's backing vocals aren't on the Spellbound version of the song. It's those people that produced the bulk of the album; I know Sandra St. Victor was one of them for sure. No Prince.

The album liner notes credit Sandra St. Victor, V Jeffrey Smith and Peter Lord as responsible for the vocal production and background vocals on the track.
