Prince got a label?

I know witht he Rainbow Children Prince said he isn't signing anymore record contracts. Prince released that album only throuhg MP3.

Musicology's come out. He's done a full fledged tour, videos, award appearences, and goten airplay. Who pays for it all? Is he signed to a major record company now?

Label-wise, Prince music is recorded under his own label - NPG Records.

Prince has signed various contracts for different elements of projects in recent years.

Such deals tend to be for marketing and distribution, with Prince retaining control over rights to the master recordings.

'The Rainbow Children' was originally released through the NPG Music Club on mp3. However, Prince then released the music on CD (and vinyl), distributed by Redline.

The 'Prince Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas' DVD release was distributed under Hip-O Records, a subsidiary of Universal.

The 'Musicology' release was marketed and distributed through a deal with Sony.

The opublishing rights to Prince's music (handled through his publishing company, Controversy Music) are currently administered by Universal, under an agreement signed several years ago.

There's a boatload of information all over the web of the business. That said, the music business is a web of its own. Good luck. confused

His most recent signing of a contract for a marketing and distribution deal appears to have been with Sony for 'Musicology'. But that isn't the conventional deal that an artist will commonly sign.
