It's an upbeat song and I like it very much too, especially on the 'down' days...

I just can't resist a "17 Days'' thread.
100% love for "17 Days" here, always. But "Erotic City" was pumpin' major madness, big-time back in the day, too!

Okay I'm usually very quite, but someone mentioned one of my favorite songs.... I liked this better than erotic city. They're both funky songs, but this song was the one that got me hooked. Nothing too complex, just straight bass funk!

In fact there is a small tie to Vanity. Apparently prince revamped a song called "Moral Majority" from a Vanity outake and recorded 17 days...again w/ Brenda singing the lead. Anyone ever heard of this outake? I wonder how close it is to 17 Days. By the way I got this info from an article by Per Nilsen with help from David Magdziarz. Moral Majority (a Vanity outtake) was reworked on Sunday January 1 1984. That day he was also working on We Can Funk (then titled We Can Fuck). Brenda sang background on Moral Majority. I don't recall if she sang lead, but I'm pretty sure that she didn't. A few days later (Sunday Jan. 8, 1984), 17 Days was reworked at Sunset Sound with Prince singing lead, and Brenda singing background. I don't think she ever sang lead on it. The next time 17 Days was seriously worked on was on Sunday March 18th, 1984 when Prince added some overdubs and mixed it. It was never placed on a compilation for Apollonia 6, nor was Apollonia herself involved in the song from what I can recall. This gets a little confusing, but I hope that clears up some of the mystery. Thanks madhouseman. This is interesting....We Can Funk original version is one of my favorite outtakes and I never realized it was created during what i call the "purple" era. Do you know if there is a copy of Moral Majority floating around somewhere? Have you ever heard it and if so how close is it to 17 Days? Also regarding the extended version I seem to remember a prince mega mix back in 84 that had pieces of the extended version in it...but again I might be wrong....memory is the first to go in old age.

I don't know of any copies of Moral Majority that are out there. I've never heard one but it is one of those songs that I'd like to hear. As for the mega mixes, none of them had any of the extended versions of 17 Days in them. It was never released and has never circulated either. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018.
