I'm not sure about this, but...
I don't think it is about the baby at all. Why? 1) I THINK the song was around at the early Emancipation sessions, before the baby was born. Can anyone confirm this? 2) The lyrics refer to her giving "Her Angels" "That night in June". Now, the baby was born on 16th October (source: The Vault) and died shortly afterwards. Certainly nowhere near June. I did think for a moment that perhaps it was about when the baby was conceived, but the dates don't add up (it would have been February or something). So my theory is that this is about something different. Maybe the day on which Mayte and Prince affirmed their love for one another. Or maybe the day he took her virginity? As I say, I really don't know - these are just my thoughts.

I always assumed it was about her virginity, never heard anyone relate it to the baby before. RIP

It was about the first night they spent apart when she had
to travel somewhere without him. Recorded well before they had the baby and it was included on an early configuration of "Emancipation" as well. It was even still on a copy of "Emancipation" that he played for some reporters at the time (the title and a description of the song ended up in an interview at the time). and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
