Updated: SOTT DVD released in Canada Distributor: Alliance Atlantis
It's amazing. The film transfer is clean and clear, free of any blemishes. Widescreen is ehanced for 16x9 TV's. The dolby digital 5.1 is powerful and well balanced through out the film. The music is clear and uses the surround speakers (front, center, rear) actively. Prince guitar track is awesome, utilizing all of the speakers. The background vocals and crowd noise mainly reside within the rear surrounds. The sound has been remastered and is beyond any of my expections. The guitar solo during I Could Never Take the Place of your Man is truly wonderful and is almost like I have never heard it before. The soundtrack really shines during the title track. I knew it was going to be good as the giutar kicks in as Prince and Cat run to the stage. The remastering process Demonstrates its excellence thoughout the film. It is outstanding during Housequake and Hot Thing , not to mention Forever in My Life. The video transfer is stunning. It is crystal clear. The colors are sharp and the contrast is perfect. The widescreen is really effective and stunningly vivid, the wide shots are wonderful. It is like watching a different film. The team that remastered the film for DVD must be real fans because they seemed to have taken great care in preparing this transfer. This is how a DVD transfer should be done. There are no extras or bonus features on the disc. This DVD is outstanding, you will throw away your VHS copy if you buy it. It is avaliable here www.amazon.ca if you want further details. Watching this DVD is like experiencing the movie for the 1st time.. again. Never before has it looked or sounded so good. A realization came over me as I watched-
"Sign 'O' The Times" is the ultimate Prince experience. If in 1000 years you wanted to show somebody what Prince was all about you could show them this movie and you would capture damn near every thing about Prince that there is. It sums him up better than anything else before or after-even "Purple Rain" the movie. All sides of Prince are shown in this movie and everyone should go to amazon.ca right now and order this DVD. See how propaganda works!?!! In over 8 years, no problems here! If you see a little padlock at the bottom-right of your explorer window upon giving personal information, you should be very safe. Just be sure you remember your passwords n such "Whatever skin we're in

Should be here in the "Land 'O' The Beer" on Tuesday! PS. I think I cried a little during "Forever In My Life" the last time I watched this. (although I DID have a few while enjoying the film!) I must say, I got my copy today and with that. The Canadians have done what the Dutch and Brazilians could not do. Finally, a great transfer of a 1987 film original put on VHS/BETA when first released on home video, then put on Laserdisc which looked crappy and dark. Most recently was transfered from Laserdisc to DVD+r by guys like Galactus & Brave. Then "officially" pressed on DVD by a company in Brazil & Holland, but transferred from VHS(?) and one actually converted it to PAL(?) by one. Now, finally! A true official release in widescreen format, remastered from the original source, in 5.1 dolby digital sound. My only gripe is that Prince wasn't involved it, much like the re-releases of Purple Rain, UTCM and Graffiti Bridge. Maybe then we could have gotten deleted scenes, extra footage, outtakes, audio commentary, unreleased videos or other cool stuff. But oh well, it's always Prince's choice. I'm just happy that i have great copies of ALL of Prince's movies in DVD format, if it were up to him, we probably wouldn't get them at all on DVD. Go buy you guys!

Yes, the U.S. and Canada both share Region 1. Can you imagine what a hassle it would be if we didn't? I know people who travel back and forth between the two countries literally in a matter of minutes. It's not like the U.K. which is all the way across the pond. grammar edit [Edited 1/27/05 11:59am]

FINALLY! After more than a MONTH since I posted info. on this, it's news! SOTT the DVD has been saved! Buy your copies and testify! PS. Nanananana! I got my copy Dec. 28. For some reason A&B Sound had a whole stack of them right in the new release section. So pfffft! Humour me. It's the first time I've ever got a break here. Most Calgary music stores are lucky to have Purple Rain, much less an unpromoted concert DVD "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan
