Prince's latest band is awesome!

I don't see what all the fuss is about. OK, so the Revolution is over, so what? We'll always have the memories. I think this new band kicks just as much ass, if not more. big grin

I agree Blackwell is an amazing drummer, but the band as a whole sucks. They're nothing more than hired help. There's no family feel like with the Revolution or Lovesexy Band. Back then, each band member had a real personality and people knew who they were. If you mention Wendy, Lisa, Dr. Fink, Sheila E.,etc. people still remember them as members of Prince's band. Who the hell cares about Renato or Mike Scott?

It would be cool if he could get one hot band again and keep them for a while.

[Flamed snipped - luv4u]As for the Revolution, most of them were only with him for most of his career up to that point, with exception to Brown Mark. Prince out grew them. Shit happens. That happened 19 years ago and Lovesexy was 17 years ago. [Flamed snipped - luv4], the guy has done well and made beautiful music over the last 2 decades. Maybe not "Purple Rain" chart topping songs, but great none the less. [Play NICE] He has endured even when his "POP" status height was 21 years ago, he still had his best, most profitable SINGLE year just last year...

Nah, the band is lame. They may be talented musicians, but they have no personality. They're session players who got an extended stay.

NO way i miss the revolution, that was then, now i wanna him to pursue another direction. He is more o a musican today, and every dayhe is growing as a musican, let is see what happens, you can be sure that with Wendy and Lisa he would not evolve so well as a musican.

interesting....aimee mann once commented that wendy and lisa are two awesome (and talented) musicians....and if you listen to the wendy of revolution and the wendy of today you can hear a vast improvement in skills...

but you might have a point, the three of them might have been content with being awesome experimentalist where they stopped perfecting their musical skills..

but today? i think it would be almost too easy for the revolution bandmembers to play what current music prince is making...

just my HO...

I am in agreement here with EWM, aside from JB and Maceo ( who has his own legacy outside of NPG ) no one really cares much for the rest of the band. It's absolutely true about Dr. Fink ( like he's known by any other name ), Sheila E ( well known touring musician, but her main fame was with him ) and Wendy & Lisa, they're synonymous with the Prince Legend. You could sit next to Renato at the bus stop and never recognize him.

Well, I think a good part of the Revolutions "personality" comes from Prince making Dr.Fink jump around in doctor's outfit. So maybe the personality they represent is not their own but Prince's idea idea of it.
I don't think that must of us could say wether Renato or Dr.Fink actually play with more "personality".

I see a lot of meaningless points being made here. Why do Prince's current band members need all kinds of "personality"? What difference does it make as far as what the band sounds like? What are Renato and Mike Scott supposed to do? They're both fine musicians who do what they get paid to do. It's a trip how some of us are still stuck in that 80's image-conscious mentality.
I guess Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead sucks too, since he ain't out there with aqua net sprayed hair and goofy sunglasses.

At least for me, I am not saying who is/was better as a band, I was just agreeing to the point that the members of The Revolution are more fondly remembered or more recognizable than the current band, and that isn't a be all end all. Candy Dulfer could be on her own and still be successful, Maceo Is and will always be Maceo, John B could do well on his own or easily lift up another band. I never heard of Rhonda outside of NPG, the same goes for Renato.

In all fairness, aside from Dr. Fink, Sheila and W&L, the other members of the Revolution are forgotten with the quickness and so are the rest who have worked with him through the years.

hold up..im not just talking about image..im talking about stage presence...im talking about having personality conveyed through their instrument..when you hear a synth breakdown you know its the doctor...when you hear a slow ballad interlude you can tell its lisa.....when you hear a sax solo, you know its eric leeds...

and its not just the revolution.....some of the past npg members had individuality...but not this new batch...

Well, that's all pretty subjective in the end. I shouldn't even bother spoiling everyone's fun here. I seriously doubt any band that Prince currently forms could satisfy the needs of nostalgia-filled purists. Folks will always want to compare them to a previous band that they think is "definitive".

not here.....theres no nostalgia filled purist on this end of the puter...i've enjoyed rosie gaines.....ive enjoyed levi....ive enjoyed many other bandmembers...*this* version of the npg seems to be feeling a role that prince wants....musical perfection..sure, thats great and all..but, it can be a dry thing to watch...

lol

and hey, next time you dont want to "spoil" everyone's fun dont end your statement the way you did...
