Has Prince ever admitted that not all of his work was great? Or does he just have a big ego and think he spit hot fire at every chance. Well, I can honestly say that not everything he has done was great. But I still love him and respect him for it anyway. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Here's the deal- "Great" is the eye of the beholder.
Prince probably wouldn't make a song if he didn't like it on some level. See, I think we tend to think that Prince is always trying to make a song with a great rhythm, melody, lyrics, etc. However, the dude probably doesn't think like that. He, as an artist, probably sometimes makes songs just to hear what the things in his brain sounds like outside of his head. Think of it this way- believe it or not, "Jughead" is might be someone's favorite song. Losta people dislike New Power Soul, but I dig it Different strokes for different folks. Well, he said in that 80's interview that "Parade was a disaster", and he knocked the album a few years ago too, saying something like "Listen to and then The Rainbow Children. Which one sounds like freedom to you?" The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

and he also once said that "Kiss" was a disaster... Doesn't it make you smile when you realize no one was there to see the stupid thing you just did?

Yes, he did say that, but he said it was because he had put so much work into it that it made it tough to listen to. It's probably not very enjoyable to him when he listens to those songs? Maybe he's gotten over it by now? I sure would love to hear that album live.

WHAT!!??! Parade is one of his BESTS. Parade, is the album he should've gotten all the Grammys's for (I'm not a fan of Musicology although, the concert was the best concert I'd ever seen in my life). I think only after Parade failed commercially, did Prince begin to doubt how great it was which is really sad because it truly is a great album. The only fault I can find with it is Kiss. Kiss was out of place and should've been on SOTT or something.

Prince said about Chaos & Disorder: "That whole album is loud and raucous, but its also dark and unhappy. Same with the Black Album."-Musician magazine 1997. Goodnight, sweet Prince.

That should have told him something. Never mix classical, folk, and elevator music with funk and rock. It spoils and weakens the whole album. "Kiss" was the best thing off that album and was a very misleading leading single. If he hadn't come back stronger with "Sign O The Times" (which still wasn't strong enough), I would have been in the wind with everyone else. Andy is a four letter word.

Yes, Kiss was a misleading single and it's sooo overrated (the video is so sexy though)!! But , thats what I mean. It's a very commercial song however, that doesn't make it any good or better than the other non commercial songs on Parade. Anotherloverholenyohead is definetly better. The whole album with the exception of Kiss flowed together nicely. I have no idea which song(s) you're considering folk music.

I got burned out on the songs." Prince said about the 2nd album PRINCE: "After the first record I put myself in a hole because it took a long time to make it. With the second record, I wanted to remedy all that, so I just made it a "hit" album. I Wanna Be Your Love was a big hit. But thats not the kind of audience I really wanted. They only come around to see u when u have another hit. They wont come and see u when u try something different. Thats the kind of audience I wanted. Ok Princey boy. Why do you still play Girls & Boys, Sometimes It Snows In April and Venus De Milo far more frequently that many other older classics? . .

Some of these quotes are taken out of context.
Prince's comment about Parade, having nothing he is proud of except for Kiss - that is SUCH an old quote, from 1987/8 wasn't it? People smack talk, people say things for effect, they change their minds, etc, etc. As for Kiss, since that was created that way by David Z and Terry Casey, is it really Prince's place to feel proud about it?! The quote about vs TRC is really about Prince's self-image, and is retrospective. I doubt anyone who makes anything is 100% satisfied all the time with their work. Look at all the unreleased music Prince has, some of that will be stuff he recorded at the time, and wasn't too happy with it, so it didn't get placed on the project he was working on at the time. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......
