Personally, I think he should have gone up. He would have got a standing ovation and it would have been a great advert for his philosophy of doing things your own way and striking deals where you still own the masters.

On the report on the Grammies on the bbc website, they don't even mention Prince winning anything! Yet they seem to mention everyone else! It's a conspiracy, I tells ya! I bet Prince was on his way upto receive the award when some Warner Bros execs tied and bound him and left him in a storeroom!

Clearly Prince's wins do not fall into what is regarded by the BBC as 'Key categories'. 107 awards? That is a bit much, do they have an award for the best janitor of a music studio too?

Prince did'nt care too much about winning the grammy award, if he did he would've showed up, i think now it does'nt mean anything 2 him or maybe he had a headache and could'nt b bothered or maybe him and mani were getting down 2 some. we'll never know?

But as the show went on I was glad he didnt show up and equally happy as I heard he won 2 awards. In direct response to "Handclaps..." I think the big problem people have is, knowing Prince was in L.A. and just did not show up. That does seem kinda stank. I honestly believe, as one orger said, this was done to keep people on their toes. Even Cyndi Lauper said on the pre show "I wanna see if Prince shows up or not". I think he knew he had it in the bag to win at least 1 award; and was like "F it; I'm not gonna show". It's just very strange that he was at the Golden Globe awards (of all places) and not the Grammys. Sounds like more of Princes mindgames to me. Yes we're happy for him with the music biz's lil game of "Catch Up" (No one on here really believes Musicology was Grammy material, do they?). And I do have to disagree with the initial posters comment on "deconstruction" (that's not cool). But Prince is up to his old tricks again and DID take one step back as to not be a "sellout" (as stated above) in the publics eye. Still aloof, mysterious, and strange...Still Prince.

Look @ it this way folks - he's been going to this kinda shit for over 20 years now It's not a big deal to him. Sure he wants to take a few home but being there can't be the most exciting shit in the world for him. Give it a rest, he probably laid in bed w/ his wife & had a better night than any of those bastids...

I really hope there was a good reason he didn't show up. He's too old to be playing games. Even if the reason was that he just didn't want to go.

I disagree on the Grammys sucking this year. I enjoyed it more than last year's show. (although I love Prince and Beyonce's performance). Melissa and Joss rocked. Bonnie Raitt was awesome. Mavis Staples looked and sounded great(I know, her voice is raspy as hell, but she was in tune) I haven't watched the entire show so I can't comment on some of it.(I watched the last 1 1/2 hourse ans started watching the beginning.) U2 was really good. I didn't care for the opening as much.
