change of prince Anyone noticed the lyrics of purple rain and call my name.
in purple rain he sings "baby i could never steal you from another" and in call my name he sings "if you belonged to another i would have to steal you". now this either explains his love for mani (provided the song was written for her) or how he has changed and matured...just one of the first things i noticed when call my name came out? what do yall think? I think he just wanted some nice words to rhyme, I wouldn't read into it like it's some psychological profile. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased...... | |

A better question is why in the first line of Space he says "I've never been one to hide my feelings" and then later on in the same album he says "All my life I've kept my feelings deep inside" as the first line to "LetItGo".

I'm just sayin' it's a pretty moot point to make - 1) Of course someone would have changed over 20 years and 2) Songs don't always reflect the writers deep emotional core on every line they write. The 'steal' idea is used a lot in songs 'I could never steal you from another' / 'if anyone else had you, I'd have to steal you from them' - I think it's just a convention of pop song writing, not a reflection of Prince's inner most thoughts and emotional development.

i can understand him changing over 20 years, but i just think that the point where he is now and where he was when purple rain came out is noticeable in his lyrics.i somehow believe that it is more based on feelings and emotion rather then "pop song writing", he doesnt seem the type to conform to most styles of music writing that other artists may practice.
