PRINCE or Me!?!?! 1 of us has got to go!!!!!!  For those of you that are married, dating, etc....
¤ ¤ ¤ Some people are fanatical to the point that they put their favourite artists, sports player, etc before anyone else in their life; which at times causes friction between family members , friends, even lovers. So I'd like to know..... Has your 'obsession' with PRINCE ever come between you and your lover, friend or family member? And if so what happened? And who did you choose?

¤ ¤ ¤ Me and my boyfriend were both huge fans of Prince back in the day  . These days we are still fans to a certain degree, but definitely not as much as we used to. So I am quite lucky  .
However I remember that my sister was not very happy when I was abroad when my niece was born (because of a Prince concert, but she was born 1 month early I must add) as well as when she was baptised (because of a Sananda concert). Well, I've met some girls (that I have been interested in for like a sec) who have poured out of their mouths things like "Oh, Prince is disgusting" or that he is "ugly" - and if that is their opinion I think it's a pretty damn good indication how closeminded individuals they are. I was raised a JW and my parents were against Princes music. "Darling Nikki" and "Erotic city" oh and "Jack u off" were heard by my parents. Needless to say they both flipped out!! So at the age of 16 in 1986 my parents said Prince has to go, or you have to go.
So 2 weeks after my 16th birthday I moved out on my own. It wasn't easy for the first year, but I did it. I've been on my own ever since. I'm more obsessed, but my gf loves Prince too, so we're absolutely fine.
Honestly, as fucked up as this sounds, I don't think I could seriously go out with anyone who dislikes him. I'm just way too into him for that kinda thing to work out in the long run. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

There's nothing strange about people choosing their partners according to musical taste, taste in clothes, interiors, art, movies, whatever. Everybody does it anyway. Tastes must match to a certain degree at least. [Edited 1/28/05 8:07am] | |

I had one idiot I was dating try that crap with me. I had bought BOTH of us tickets to see Prince back in 97, 98, somewhere back there, anyhoo, this fool's so called friends got wind that WE were going to see Prince and starting giving HIM a hard time. He then wanted to get all macho and shit with me and told me I had to GIVE BOTH of MY tickets to his kid sister and her friend, they were fans too. When I finished cussing, he told me that I had a choice...a scrawny lil' yella motherfucka, I had no chance in hell meeting or him!
Damn, I wonder what that idiot's up to now! Oh well, my husband and I saw Prince live twice last year and I think he had more fun than I did. It's good to be in love with a fellow fan! | |

I was once in love with a guy whom I've dated for a very long time and he loved Prince as much as I did...not to mention that he looked like him...But my husband today doesn't care for Prince's music but he knows what kind of music to put on in order for me to get in the mood...uh huh Prince got him on that one... Um... let me warm up my vocals

I took my son to dinner for his 28th birthday last week...and then let him use my car for the evening...as he got in the car he said "what the hell are you listening too....AGAIN!" "Don't you get tired of him....blah blah"....I said "your just jealous 'cause your mom loves him"...he laughed and said "yep...and all those other women too"(my son is a handsome young man)...a few minutes later..."he said that man has short man complex too....don't he?" (My son is also very short!) I said "yes, honey...just like you and DON"T even THINK of removing those CD's or I break you fingers!" Happy birthday honey!
I didn't lose him over it...LOL But thought it was kinda funny...  | |

If someone outright says Prince or his music is shit, it'll annoy me, but I wouldn't break up a relationship of any kind over it.
Seriously, a lot of Prince fans are fucking nuts. Prince tattoos, naming your pets and/or children after Prince related things, breaking off relationships because the other person isn't a fan, dissecting his relationships and life.....  "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!" | |

About a year back I was dating a guy named Jeremy, and he knew I liked Prince alot..(understatement but hey.) In september he said "he couldn't compete with someone like Prince. So if you wanna be with me you've got stop it with Prince."
