prince played sax?? Prince recalled, "I got my first band. I wanted to hear more instruments, so I started Champagne, a twelve-piece band. Only four of us played. Eight were faking. Andre and I played saxophone. I also played piano. I wrote all the music. The songs were all instrumentals. No one ever sang. When I got into high school, I started to write lyrics. I'd write the really, really vulgar stuff." Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

a woman sitting next to us at one of the musicology shows tried to convince me taht she went to a prince show and watched him play sax most of the way through the show. i tried to disabuse her of this for a while, but she wasn't having it. she was absolutely positive she watched prince playing sax, live in concert. so eventually i just broke down and said, "wow, that must have been something."

Perhaps she was at that Paisley show where Prince played with David Bowie? You know, one of those shows we'll never know anything about  Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop. | |

if that lady is reading this, i'm not trying to make fun of ya - but i still don't believe it! ...ah the eyes of the Bholder  i always felt that Leeds was closest 2 the sound Prince heard n his head 4 saxophone so he left it 2 Eric(if it aint broke don't fix it)....i WOULD love 2 hear Prince play flute n public; he might feel a little more confident blowin' on that than saxophone.....his flute skills get 2 B  [Edited 2/14/05 17:41pm] | |

nah, believe me, if she'd mentioned david bowie, i would have remembered. and i would have asked to take her temperature. Presumably, she was unable to mention which particular show this was? Year? Venue? (Her position in relation to the stage and the quality of her eyesight?) . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift. |

(but from where i sit: piano & timbal r both percussion instruments) i wondered if Prince felt ready 2 reveal some depth & sensativity on violin....his passionate fans seem 2 encourage his shyness 2ward expressing very much n other genre's....whatchathink Snap? | |

Oh, sorry. He did this in response to a group of fans at the time who were talking just like the people in this thread, and they were arguing over whether Prince could still play sax or not. So within a couple months, Prince puts out the "Face Down" video acting like he's playing sax. Also, I think it might've be an inside joke toward the sax line from Lenny's "Always on the Run (Mama Said" song. [Edited 2/14/05 20:29pm] | |
