Many times between 2 and 4 in the morning...as a teenager..playing "She's always in my hair 12" and Erotic City 12" OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!! Hearing the bangs on the door from my parents..."HEY..TURN THAT DOWN NOW...and GET YOUR ASS TO BED!!!!" They bought me some headphones at some point during that summer!!! [Edited 2/6/05 11:21am]

My parents were really cool about my music back in the '80's. Prince, Punk and New Wave... they never complained once. Now I'm lucky enough to have a wife who loves P. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

just last weekend. it was about 7 pm on a saturday. was playing "ona..it ain't over" and i get a call from the f'ing doorman of my building saying there were complaints that my music was bothering other residents. something about the "bass being too loud." i was like... and then i was like...

my sibs used to always ask me "Don't you have anything else to listen to?" for that i used to turn the music up louder and sing at the top of my lungs. My kitty wants to play...

oh god yes, every single one of my friends! they all can't stand him! and my mom especially. i have headphones but she thinks that them being on zero is too fuckin loud. she always rolls her eyes when i talk about him, and my sister hates it too. I always turn my music up louder. I remember last year on the bus to school my friends were like
"turn ur music down! damn, can't u listen to someone else? like how could someone be hott when they wear high heels and makeup? isn't that making him GAY???' and my responce was a concise note and a big cuz lawd knows i've been through hell defending myself and my man... Quite the opposite, since my mother loves Prince as much as me. She would always have his music on full blast in the house. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Back in 1985 when I was 15yrs old I was in my room listening to the 1999 album when my father came in to tell me that he had just read a New York Times article about Prince and his sex oriented lyrics on some of his albums, then he went on to tell me that I better not be listening to any of those songs. I told him I wouldn't, and after he left I quickly grabbed my head phones from the walkman and pluged them into my stereo.
Other than that he was really cool about Prince, and my obsession with him. He even asked what tape I had the "Baby....a star/I would...4u concert video on so he could watch it whenever he wanted. What am I supposed 2 do when the President can't get nothin' passed?

The same thing happened to me too in 1985, after Tipper Gore with the PMRC started calling Prince and the Revolution "Porn Rock". Goodnight, sweet Prince.

I had the 1999 album when I was 12 years old, and I would purposely NOT play certain songs around other people -- there was no way I was gonna risk someone taking it away from me. I remember one time playing the song "Jack U Off" really loud, thinking that my mother had no idea what it was about (yeah, we teenagers thought we knew it all and that everyone else knew nothing) and she yelled at me, "I know what that song's talking about!" That was embarassing! So I tried to keep the really sexual stuff on the down low.

Ah, yes constantly. I catch so much hell from everyone except my grandma for listening to Prince music. It's always "There she goes listining to that damn Prince again" And when Im on the school bus listining to my cd player and people put on my headphones, you should see the mouths drop. Im blasting "Automatic" in my room right now, let's see what happens. Class of 08'

Oh my God, I was so upset one day when I was playing GOD. My dad came in and said that it sounded like two cats fighting. I was sooooo upset. I told my dad "Dad, it's a song about God." He looked at me in a strange way and left.
One of my favorite mom moments was hearing her sing When Doves Cry, well actually not the words just the ooo, oooo, ooo parts. This is an old school Mexican woman doing this. She would look at me and do the parts and laugh. I miss her.....For my graduation she dedicated a Purple Rain on the radio, the spanish version "Purpura, purpura" Miguel MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! We want cigar puffing men that look like they wanna beat the living daylights out of us" Val"sporking is spooning with benefits"
