Last chance for a single from Musicology?

For those that like Musicology, I was wondering if anyone thought that it was still possible for another single release to do well, especially given the recent Grammy publicity? I know that some, like myself, believed that Dear Mr. Man or On the Couch had potential for major R&B success. Just seems like a good, or last, chance to release a single before any new projects come up later this year. I say why not.

"On The Couch" would make a nice R&B single but he doesn't need to release it. He needs to release a new album. That's the problem with today's music, they milk an album to make money off singles for two or three years. Back in the day, almost ALL artists released an album every year.

I agree with you regarding On the Couch. Great song! However, the reason that I personally want another single is that this might be one of Prince’s better chances to get a Top 40 hit. Musicology has some name recognition, the tour and the Grammy’s have added to that. Why not capitalize on that with another single?

Also, if Prince is no longer going to play his older hits, then he will need to replace them with NEW hits. As much as I/we love Prince, the average concertgoer will probably not go and fill out a 20,000 seat arena to hear little heard songs by him. We will, but "they" won't. The Musicology single was a good start, and CMN was a hit, but he’ll need more of them to bring the public in when he tours again; especially if it’s an arena tour.

By just releasing either one of several songs, he guarantees himself a hit on one of the charts, and significant airplay. For example, I could imagine any of these songs appearing on the following charts:
A) Man in Ur Life: top 5 Urban, easily Top 40 crossover.
B) On the Couch: easy #1 Urban AC, top 10 Urban, Top 40
C) Dear Mr. Man: top 5 Urban AC, top 20 Urban
D) Refection: #1 Urban AC
E) What Do U Want Me 2 Do: top 10 Urban AC, top 10 Smooth Jazz

I'm fine with him releasing another single as long as it doesn't delay a new album.

Prince has told that lie before about never playing the old hits again. He said that back when he first changed his name to a symbol. He said he was very divorced from "Prince" and would not be playing of "Prince's" old hits ever again. During the "Jam Of The Year" tour in 1997, when he was still known as a symbol, he played mostly the old hits and very few new songs.

Prince's statement this year was just a scheme to scare the old fans into attending the concert for "one last chance". His "One Night Alone" tour previously, had played Auditoriums rather than coliseums.
