Prince Grammy Nominations

I had a hard time on here finding out just how many nominations Prince had this year and who he was up against. But after some careful research (copy/paste from Grammy.com) I found he's nominated in the following 4 categories.

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance,
The nominees for BEST MALE POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE include a new version of Cole Porter's 76-year-old song, "Let's Misbehave." Elvis Costello, who was 10 when Porter died in 1964, is nominated for his recording of the song from the Porter biopic De-lovely . Two former winners in this category are competing again. Seal , who won in 1995 for "Kiss From A Rose," is nominated for "Love's Divine." John Mayer, who won in 2002 for "Your Body Is A Wonderland," is back with "Daughters," also a Song Of The Year finalist. Prince is in the running with "Cinnamon Girl," a track from Musicology, which is nominated for Best R&B Album. The final nominee is Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up," from his album Closer.

Best R&B Song and Album,
For BEST MALE R&B VOCAL PERFORMANCE, promising star Anthony Hamilton is recognized for "Charlene," his tale of trying to balance his love for his lady and his love for his music. It's a touching moment that highlights Hamilton's rugged yet tender voice. GRAMMY mainstays are also recognized in this category. R. Kelly's feel-good "Happy People" and Usher's woeful "Burn" get nods here, as each singer flexes his vocal chops on songs with dramatically different themes. Prince's "Call My Name" and Brian McKnight's "What We Do Here" complete the nominees.

Nominees in the BEST R&B ALBUM category represent some of the genre's stalwarts as well as two artists eager to earn a spot among the greats. Al Green's I Can ' t Stop, Prince's Musicology and Anita Baker's My Everything show these longtime greats are continuing to make satisfying music. Albums from relative newcomers Alicia Keys (The Diary Of Alicia Keys) and Jill Scott (Beautifully Human: Words & Sounds Vol. 2) also earned nominations.

Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Traditional R&B Vocal Performance
R&B legends are abundant in the BEST TRADITIONAL R&B VOCAL PERFORMANCE category. Al Green lives up to his own proclamation with a nomination for "I Can't Stop," while Patti LaBelle shows that she remains as vocally sharp and awe-inspiring as ever on "New Day." Anita Baker delivers another tender love song with "You're My Everything," and Prince flexes his funk bones on "Musicology." Music pioneers Ray Charles and B.B. King round out this group with their moving duet, "Sinner's Prayer," from Charles' oft-nominated Genius Loves Company.

Has Al Green ever even received a Grammy? He sure as hell deserves one for all he's given us through the years.

he's gotten a few for some of his gospel albums...dunno how long it's been since he's gotten one for his secular work. probably not since at least the '70s...hmmm
