Exactly what I think.

The birthday 86 show is all the poorer for not featuring all the numbers as they were played on the night.

I remember Controversy's Eileen waxing lyrical about that televised gig before it was first brodcast on British TV and wasted no time in telling her non-Prince fan friends to catch a brilliant show.

Needless to say the response after the screening was less than ecstatic. In fact she said the kindest comment she got was "what a load of old cods"... biggrin

ive overplayed it. looking back theres too many stop/starts, playing one verse and chorus and thats it (if that)
then the long baby im a star, purple rain (best guitar playing by prince at the start).

i notice he bottled out when screaming on darling nikki, but 'when doves cry' extended is funky, as is possessed (that keyboard/bass part is great in the background). all the grooves still feel fresh.

i had a stereo video at the time so listened to it with headphones on, and was blew away when i heard what was going on in the background with the sequencers and background playing.

The 1st time I heard "Irresistable Bitch" was the version from Prince and the Revolution:LIVE! I was a bit let down when I heard the b-side and it had no chicken scratch guitar.

I love this show...still have the tape and play it once in awhile. I don't think it comes close to the Sign o the Times movie. Even tho SOTT wasn't a "true" concert movie...its still awesome all the way through. LIVE gets a little boring in parts...Do Me Baby, God (when he "talks" to God???).

BUT LIVE's version of Irresistable Bitch and Possessed is just Revolution funk at its best. That beat with the guitar...just fierce!

MrJoker

I'd love to have this on DVD!

The segment of "When Doves Cry" still pisses me off though when they fuck with the screen and do the mirror image thing like in the video for the song. mad

Prince and the Revolution LIVE, The Parade Birthday concert and the Lovesexy shows from Germany ... They're all ace ace ace .... I want them all on DVD now! ... What about that Nude Tour performance from The Tokyo Dome ... watching bits of that I'm sure that was professionally done for broadcast... what about that being relessed! ... And some of that footage from that 'concert movie' that was supposed to happen from the Controversy tour .... Hmmm ... that's all of 'here's hoping!' sad
