If you must know, it was a cd that Prince released exclusively at first through his website. It was four instrumental songs 14 minutes in length each. Some had moments of jazzyiness others had moments of I'm not sure what to call it. Of all the Prince CD's I own it is the only one I listened to once and can't remember where I put afterwards.

Oh yeah, the songs were called North, East, West, and South. NEWS.

there is a couple of decent moments on it.
I dont mind it i think its ok. But u cant put it in any of your cd racks so u have to sit it with 1999;The New Master. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It's the most boring, unambitious album he's ever released. It'll put you right to sleep.
The best way to listen to NEWS is have it on in the background while you're busy with something so that you can ignore it. Don't operate heavy machinery while it's on though. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I love this cd, I would much rather listen to this over Musicology any day, but then everyone's taste's are different. I say buy it and decide for yourself. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

No, that would be New Power Soul. Except that one won't put you to sleep. In fact, it will give you nightmares. This album has 2 tracks that stand out, "NORTH" and "south" these 2 alone kick ass! Tust me, if u love instrumental, get this album! Keenmeister

If NEWS had been released back in 87 I think it would get far more props than it does now if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I completely disagree. If it was released in the 80's ppl would be going crazy wondering what the hell Prince was thinking. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

If N.E.W.S. had been an unreleased bootleg, it would get more respect as well...it's all about presentation and marketing, the context in which the work is heard. When Prince released N.E.W.S., the context thru which many viewed Prince was of an arrogant 80's has-been rocker who was isolating his dwindling fanbase down to nothing by foresaking his creative pop tunes in favor of pretentious jazzy musical meanderings...so many people can't hear anything on N.E.W.S. without having that image in their minds.
