Funny, funny guy. He had the B-52s in the studio one night.... I don't know what happened but it caused one of the girls in the group to say "Damn!!" on the air, to which Mojo replied - "Don't say Damn, just say .....WOAH!" Keep your headphones on.

Remember that wicked tornado we had in Hamtramck in summer '97?
If you grew up listening to Mojo and thought he'd gotten soft in his old age, he let you know he is still SUPERMAN.... "MY NAME IS MOJO (mojo, mojo...).... AND I DROVE THROUGH THE TORNADO." Not like he was bragging or anything, hhahahaha. Keep your headphones on.

Hopefully he still has them, but I know for a fact he used to tape his own shows. There were many nights in '95 that he wasn't really in the studio. He was going through things and writing his book. In his absence, he had Wendell play old tapes from WJLB. Keep your headphones on.

It's like back in the day, when you would roll down to Belle Isle, and see 30 cars there, all with Mojo's show on full blast on their radios. That's the beautiful thing about his shows: how he united Detroit in that way. It didn't matter who you were, who you hung with or what your bag was, Mojo, indeed, provided the soundtrack to our lives. Well, I am a white kid from the Ann Arbor area, (Hicksville, actually) I was the ONLY guy listening to Mojo.. but I got ALOT of people into it and by the time I was a senior, We had our own Midnight Funk Association...

Listening to Mojo was like being in this great musical spaceship. I would put my headphones on as loud as possible, cut out the lights and let him take me on this crazy musical journey. I'm all goose pimpley just thinking about it. Damn he played some great music. A true radio maverick.

Does ANYONE know what happened to this cat? He's living here in Detroit going to church. He's no longer in the business. Radio changed and his programming did not fit the policies. I remember the long Prince jams, the exclusive interviews with him in the limo.....Midnight Funk Association you got your sunglasses on hold on tight don't let go don't say damn say whoa when you're at the end of your rope tie a knot and don't let go.....

My fondest memories is hearing , Knee Deep, Controvery, Get It Up, Numbers, Square Biz, Clear and Ghetto Life, all in one sequence. Radio will never be that good again. Yup that was Detroit radio then!!

Probably influenced my music listening more than anyone other than my mom. First time I heard Prince, Rick James, Kraftwork, Art of Noise, and Cybertron on his show. . I'm still very much involved in the Detroit Underground Techno Scene. He's still doing various shows and Festivals but I don't think he d.j.'s on the radio anymore. He made appearances at the last two Detroit Music Festivals. you know i thought i heard that.

Where the heck were you the other night, when I was up in here having Mojo flashbacks? As you can see in my signature, Mojo was and still is my favorite DJ! He turned me out when I was just babe of 8. Most of my pre and adolescent misbehaving stemmed from the fact that I would get caught, still up waaay past my bedtime trying to listen to Mojo! Mojo is the one who turned me on to Prince. I do hope Prince realized how much Mojo helped his career and did something to show his gratitude besides giving a shout out. I had the honor of meeting Mojo face to face in '99. I didn't even realize it was him until I heard him speak, then I got all giddy, you'd think Prince himself had just walk in or something. He was real cool though, and I really enjoyed our conversation about the days of the Midnight Funk Association. Radio just hasn't been the same. I heard he still has www.electrifyingmojo.com registered so maybe he'll do something for us online again. If not, as I said in another post, Mojo, three words...Sirius Satellite Radio!! I've already got mine, and I'm ready when you are! When Prince played at the Palace of Auburn Hills last June he acknowledged Mojo and most of those subu excuse me NONE OF THOSE SUBURBANITES knew what he was talking about. They were waiting for "Raspberry Beret."

Although I'm from the dirty south & never heard any of Mojo's radio show (beside the Prince interview on mp3), I know by reading about him that he is a living urban legend in electro, techno, & funk communities. Any yes, we need real DJ's like him on the radio even today!

ButterscotchPimp said: Mojo was the reason that in the early days of Prince's career, Detroit was his biggest radio market. But it goes a lot deeper than his love and support of Prince's music. Mojo was the LAST free-thinking DJ in the Detroit market. When he was in his heyday on WGPR, he was also the only "urban" dj that regularly spun artists such as the B-52's (who also gave Mojo a lot of credit for their early career, so much that they named one of their album "Whammy Kiss" after one of Mojo's trademark sayings), The Rolling Stones, Bowie, Billy Squier, etc.
After leaving the Detroit area for awhile, it seemed that whenever a new radio station was starting up and they needed ratings, they got Mojo. He jump started WJLB into the powerhouse (piece of crap) that it is today. And what usually happened was after Mojo brought HUGE ratings to the station, they would want to confine him to a format, and that's just not what he does. At his last radio job in Detroit, he got fired for playing classical music, when a young listener had asked whether any black people composed classical music. Mojo is a legend and an icon, and it's amazing that more people don't know about him. His is the story that movies should be written about. Trust me, Mojo is a living legend.
