The Same December? I was watching the video on NPGMC and most of it was about Prince being in a LIFETIME contract with WB (very different than my thoughts about the song)
What do some of you Prince experts think the song was about?

I'm no expert, but I thought it was simply an anti-racism song. I'll have to go and listen to it now.

Hmm, I always thought this song had a very double meaning.
It seems to me that it is one of the few songs in which he tried to make light of his signing to WB again in 1991 but ah, you only know what you know and ah you only see what your heart will show coupled with the clip, it made me think that eventhough he signed with Warners again, he was saying that he had grown spiritually and become a better, less materialist person and therefore now knew a lot more than he did at the time he signed up again. which is typical Prince, to peddle back on something and write it off as something "spiritualy undeveloped". brr. The whole songs thus becomes a metaphore of people who want something to begin with but once they have it they feel that something is missing: spirituality/god. Thus, after embracing this god, from which we all stem and to which we will all return (according to Prince), one becomes a better person and is able to make other choices. -and in his weird logic, also has a right to simply write off past choices under this new rule, as if they have no substance since they were made at time when he wasn't as "complete" as he is now. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
