1) we dont use the symbol

hold up, wait a minute..the org is not part of this..the org does not post illegal content.....that is why the org has yet to face these types of problems..

seriously, i checked out HQ's complaints regarding NPGMC's most recent requests, and i came away from it with three thoughts:

1) i know i won't be sitting at the popular kids' table after this, but...i think it's well within NPGMC's rights to dictate what's done with its logos and with the photographs/illustrations/logos that it produces. to a certain extent, the internet is kind of like 'the wild frontier' in that you can't control all the material all the time, and everyone's gonna sneak off with SOMEthing you post on the web...but when a site appropriates something like the NPG logo, or when they manipulate photography produced specifically for a prince album, and when those appropriations are carried through not just by a user of the site, but by the designers and owners of the site, then i see no reason why they shouldn't be answerable to the owners of those images when they bring on the clampdown with regards to other people using their intellectual property.

2) not for nothin', but i harbor sincere doubts as to how unpleasant the missive from NPGMC must have been, though i could be wrong about this. it's always unpleasant to be slapped on the wrist for something, no matter how polite or diplomatic you try to be about it. considering the offerings of photo exclusives NPGMC has offered HQ in the past, i'd hardly suspect the club's webmasters have it in for HQ. again: i could be way off-track about this. but i don't think so. and i'm NOT saying HQ is lying or distorting any facts - i'm just saying that sometimes perspective can be a motherfucker.

3) this isn't the first time we've seen this happen - not only with HQ but with other sites as well. seems to happen in between releases of new prince product, right when fans are at their most restless, right when it's easiest to whip us all into a froth over whatEVER. do you think this is coincidence?

really, i wish nothing but the best for the HQ folks, and i hope that in this latest round of general squawking amongst all involved, the folks at NPGMC remember the virtues of grace and mercy. it's all supposed to be about having fun, isn't it?

for the rest of us, i would like to humbly recommend discussing this latest round of unpleasantness with as much respectful calm and proportionately dispassionate debate as can be mustered. seems we always have a kneejerk reaction whenever something like this happens, and this time maybe we can learn by being a little analytical and questioning what we question. not tellin' ya what to think or anything...i'm just sayin'.

anyway, i think the Org needs to be very careful how it responds to HQ's situation right now - because if things ever turn you will want everyone to come to your aid too...

I visit both sites and u can believe they have some lickass fans over at NPGMC. They even mention the org. I had 2 keep my composure. U have a few members on the NPGMC that r always running there mouth. All they do is visit the different sites and report back 2 NPG on what is being said and done on these web sites and it doesn’t take a blind person 2 know who is guilty of the spying. The reason I say this is because if u go 2 NPGMC u will have the same big mouth person answering on each post.

I am talking about these newbies that have posted "Why don't you stop doing things to be narc'd on" and "I don't blame NPGMC". It is obvious these posters have come from NPGMC just to defend this little stunt, nothing else.
One even said that he was "baaack to NPGMC".
I don't need somebody to come into my house to eff with me. That is the only reason to join HQ, well then keep stepping!

You'll find page after page after page of images taken from bootlegged DVD's.
There's the 'illegal content' there.

thats a font and its used within discussion...copywrite violation comes into play when you use someone else's logo or symbol as if its your own.....

I've mentioned over there that Finess offers prince songs in his mixes, that he SELLS and MAKES MONEY from, and they turn a blind eye to that. That's no different than me making copies of Musicology and selling them online.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

For all you know, Finess has permission to do so.

Riiiight. Come on, do you really believe that? From a guy that doesn't even allow someone to use his symbol on a website that isn't making money? Finess is a bootlegger plain and simple. He repackages commercially available music, sells it, and makes money off of it. It's astonishing to me that he hasn't been sued.....yet.

Taking my seat the un-popoular kids table I have to add:

A couple of months back there was a video posted that was clearly from a bootlegged source (Triple Treat Tour performance). There was debate back and forth amoungst the HQ folks (NPGMC had nothing to do with it) about why the mods there were allowed to post boots and members were not. (Apparently it's in the user agreement when you sign up to participate in the forum not to post bootlegged material) The video was left to be downloaded and most of the members who questioned the actions were poo pooed and told to shut up by the mods and other members alike.
