Why do you like your fav P album???

I've read many here killing NEWS, NPS and prince Symbol
Others, worshiping Lovesexy and SOTT...

I personally Love prince Symbol. I used to like Prince before this one, but not religiously until I bought the prince Symbol caset (yap).
I think it's very cohesive, I really do.

I was at the university when I bought it (1993), getting over my all-time girlfriend (8 years... "And If I never see you again...It's all right...- God Created woman)

Really funky (The Continental- The Sacrifice of Victor)
and sexy (The Max- Wanna melt with U)

And I REALLY like The Flow

prince is to blame for all the money I start spending on all prince cd's and singles...

So? What's yours???? WHY?????

wink

(Sorry, I had to write the word "Symbol" after each symbol emoticon since it didn't work...)

Hmmm..ok I am going to be the dork and admit that my favorite Prince album is Purple Rain. It was the first CD of his that I bought and I loved EVERY song. That never happens with me. Even thought it is extremley overplayed there is no denying the power of those songs. To be honest it is one of the Prince albums I listen to the least but not becuase I don't like it but after playing it nonstop since 1993 you become quiet desentised to it. But every now and then I put it on and it just blows me away.

My fav album is ATWID, that said I can only say it is my favorite b/c I can listen to it over and over and still cry the 16th time I've listened to Condition of the Heart. Every song seems to speak to me just a little more than any other but only if I listen to the entire album. B/c my fav song is actually not on ATWID but the album is like one huge soundtrack for a particular time in my life and it is almost as if it were my diary put to wonderful music.
I'm gonna count every second, every minute, each and every hour of every day, 'till you come on back, come on back........

Mine is easily Purple Rain.

He created a revolutionary, magical new sound with this album that I don't think he ever matched on any follow up.

Purple Rain has got absolutely everything. You've got your fun, harmless pop songs Take Me With U and Baby, I'm a Star, more meaningful songs like I Would Die 4 U and Let's Go Crazy, and the absolutely amazing, sexy guitar songs Computer Blue and Darling Nikki.

When Doves Cry? Probably the most ingenius pop song he's ever created. This song both means something and has an irresistable hook that never gets old. This song is timeless and innovative. Pure pop perfection.

Here's the real clincher for me though. Purple Rain and The Beautiful Ones are my fav and second fav songs ever respectively. Purple Rain is my anthem for getting over every tragic experience with wisdom and newfound strength and hope, and The Beautiful Ones sums up a lot of painful memories of jealousy and troubles with the girl I'm now happy and in love with. Quite simply, these are two of the most heartstopping, gorgeous, most magical and defining ballads of P's career.

Purple Rain is a stunner. It's the peak of Prince as a commercial force and a groundbreaking artist. He was inspired and fearless on this album, and listening to it always puts a smile on my face and reminds me why I loved the guy in the first place. IMO There was simply nowhere to go from here but down.

Controversy.

It's like a rougher prototype 1999.

It was a little pompus and cocky (one thing I like about Prince), a little New Wave, a little social commentary (I like that side of Prince too), it was a little punk, and a lotta funk. dancing jig

Also saw the introduction of the Linn drum machine onto Prince's albums with Private Joy.

Ronnie Talk 2 Russia is pure unabashed FUN! - Crank it up in the car and let everyone know you don't want to feed the guerillas. dancing jig

Controversy is the last album before mega-stardom. 1999 outshines it on almost every front, but it was all there on Controversy. cool

My favorite is "1999" because it's cold, dark, and futuristic.

Parade because it has everything I love about a Prince album. It is avant garde, funky, fun, sad, had clare fischer all over it, contained 4 great singles, a killer ballad, had a great sleeve, and translated amazingly into the first live concert I'd ever been to.

I'd say.....Dirty Mind/Controversy r tied....I had the double cassette and played it over and over and over again..
It was a time when Prince was raw and I was a teenager (it was a perfect match)
So, when I need go back to that place...It's DM/Controversy 4 me

1999 because it has some of my favorite songs on it, like D.M.S.R., Automatic, International Lover and the title track. I loved his music in the early 80's, it was just so funky biggrin My other favorite albums are Dirty Mind, Controversy and Purple Rain.

Because Purple Rain RULES!!!!! headbang

Oh, and because it's the one Prince album that I can listen to from start to finish and become totally inspired and enlightened by. Other Prince albums may have some tracks that I like more than others, but there isn't a single complaint I have about any song off Purple Rain.

Sign O' The Times because it comes closer than any album to showing all the best sides of prince. Funk, rock, pop, psychedelia, a dash of jazz, a hint of blues, gospel and folk (these same ingredients in different proportions are the reasons why I love sly, jimi and stevie so much), some of his finest one-man band performances, most of his most inspired lyrics and melodies, a great balance between length and quality, variety and consistency, what more could you want. It has plenty of good examples of his prowess as a guitar player, bass player, vocalist and arranger, and has some of his best morphing/mutating/building songs. The only thing it lacks are prince's most convincing attempts at jazz (which I personally think is the title track to the rainbow children) and hip-hop (which for me is probably letitgo, even though there's no rapping in that one).

I could go into a long post, stating why I love each album, but will refrain...I would say that I lean more towards 1999. I've always thought DMSR was a perfect dance-floor song. The rhythm is so funky. I automatically start bobbing my head at the very first note.

Automatic is very sexy. I always thought that it perfecty described my own feelings I had towards my husband when we were first married. (I behaved sort of like a love/sex slave for a long time).

I absolutely love Lady Cab Driver. The music in that song is so sensual sounding (minus the outdoor noises). The words are sweetly seductive (the song, not the spoken parts). If I have a song in my head, it's always the lines, "take me to your mansion...honey lets go every where..."
